  • Hawaii exchanges - SFX

I am considering an exchange into Hawaii. Thinking about Oahu. For those of you that have been able to get an exchange thru SFX - what was the timeshare and how many did it sleep? In their directory they list Marriott and HGVC. These look great, but how often is an exchange made to these resorts? I am looking at spring or fall of 2010. Was thinking about a cruise, but they are so expensive along with the flight from the east coast. Any advise you can give is greatly appreciated.

I got Wyndham Kona Hawaiian Resort through SFX. It was a 2 BR, I think it would have slept 6 but there were only 2 of us. Very nice place. I actually had a choice of resorts and a choice of dates.

Thanks for you input. Is this all of the exchanges that TS4MS members have had to Hawaii?

I exchanged with SFX and was given a 1BR in Oahu at the Wyndham Waikiki - and a 1BR at the Ka'anapali Beach Club in Maui. I requested 1BRs as it was just my husband and I traveling. They also accomodated back-to-back weeks for us. (We liked Oahu better)

Let's see, SFX has given me the following Hawaii Exchanges:

Kona Hawaiian Village - 2 BR (twice)
Mauna Loa Village by the Sea - 2 BR (twice)
Kona Coast Resort - 1 BR
Kaanapali Beach Club - 1 BR
            Paniolo Greens - 2 BR

We have never requested Oahu, so I don't know what kind of inventory they get for that location. We love the BI, so that is our primary focus.

It's rare to hear about a Marriott through SFX, let alone a Marriott in HI. We used a MGC 2BR (Las Vegas Marriott) to get a 2BR at Kona Coast 2 for Thanksgiving (actually, checking in the Saturday after) this year.

I think I've heard of 2 Marriott's obtained through SFX in the last 3 years; this was a list on TUG of SFX trades and they showed up, last year IIRC.

I got Ali'i Kai resort in Princeville. Unfortunately, I had to let it go due to changes in my work schedule.

I had a Hawaii request in for a friends honeymoon some time back....unfortunately they offered me a one bedrrom but it was day of wedding and then in meantime I got exact dates thru TPI, so I had to go with that as the honeymooners needed to plan. I did receive responses from SFX, that they would have gotten something but under the circumstances I could not hold off. I have heard they have good resorts in Hawaii but I have no first hand knowledge.

Hi Pat - not quite sure about where you got your information from about Hawaii Marriott's being rare with SFX. Was it a reliable source?

In my case, my own personal experience combined with 3 years of reports of SFX exchanges on TUG. As TUG and TSFM's likely represents the most saavy of timeshare users, evidenced by Brian Rogers being interviewed on Nightline, I would say that's a credible source of anecdotal experience.

If anything changes, I'm sure we'll be the first to excitedly report it. Traditionally, people are always excited about getting Marriott trades IME.

Pat - with all due respect,TUG and TSFM represent a tiny fraction of the timeshare public, which means the greater majority of timeshare owners do not participate in these sites, and any reporting (assuming it's accurate) is just based on a tiny percentage of the timeshare population.

And although a number of participants in the timeshare bulletin boards may have a degree of saviness, isn't it somewhat presumptious to assume they "represent the most savvy of timeshare users", with such tiny representation in the whole timeshare population?

With 150,000 members and thousands of deposits that come in each year, your own personal experience with us would not give you any indication of what kind of volume of Hawaii Marriott units come into the system. For the same reason there would not be any "credible or accurate" accounting of our Hawaii Marriott deposits on TUG or any other website.

In this instance, there is absolutely no correlation or reasonable accuracy (anecdotal or otherwise) with what is reported on these sites and the reality of what we acquire in deposits........it is simply "guessing and assumptions".

Although Marriott properties are very nice, there are many other properties that people get much more excited about and do not feel the need to report online.

                          Hope this helps...
