The membership package is great if you can get back for another visit and likely even if you can not. The Household membership provided much value for us when the kids were younger and I notice it has hardly changed in price, was about $75 then. You will have to do the math as applies to you.

      OK I confirmed today.

Thanks for the links all. I'll take a look at cost justification.

If anyone local wants the last night or two gratis drop me a note...I do not see us staying past NYE, Wednesday night. Check-out is Saturday.

Enjoy your vacation, Mike. You are warmer than we are here. It has been really chilly for us and we had rain but we needed that. We can see the snow all around us in the mountains.

So many choices! The resort info says this one is walking distance to everything?
            Lawren,
As others have said Inn on the Harbor is nice, and the location is super. You will be glad that you are on the Newport side of the Bridge instead of Jamestown. My favorite of the Wyndhams there is On Shore, a bit further down Thames St than Inn on the Harbor but still right in the middle of everything and units are a bit larger. But, Inn on the Harbor is fine and like I said location is perfect for seeing Newport. Since it will be cold you will probably want to drive to the mansions but all downtown and the warf shops you can walk to.
Have a great time, we love it there this time of year.

Mike I hate you... getting another 5 inches on top of the 8 we got Friday here. 80 is sounding pretty lovely.

And you could have breathed the same rarefied air that I was breathing just a week before.

I'm sitting out on my balcony in shorts looking at the gulf and beach. Ahhhh.

                Have a great trip.

We did have a lovely time. The first two days we did a lot of walking and shopping.

Went to Belcourt Castle for the ghost tour Monday night which was fun. Of course the tour guide looked like a person who had seen some ghoulies in her lifetime. No ghosts to be seen.

Tuesday (as it was only open Monday and Tuesday this week) off to the Astor's Beechwood Manor which was amazingly small in comparison to some others. This one was interactive with characters acting as family members and servants from 1892. The parlor games and dancing in the ballroom made that tour truly wonderful. I even have a photo of DS14 dancing with one of the actresses.

Wednesday was horrid. Snow and wind all day. As mentioned previously the units are not large. Thankfully there were 2 TVs, we had brought DS's XBox 360 and all the new games he got for XMas and I had my hi-jacked free internet which I managed to get up to 5.5Mbps or we surely would have killed each other. Fireworks were cancelled and it was just too frigid to attend First Night activities. A pity really as that was the centerpiece for the visit.

On a good friend's suggestion we walked about 100yards to the Red Parrot and had a surprisingly good meal for New Year's Eve.

This morning when we got up it was 13 degrees with wind chills of -10F. We decided to make a day of it and head home before the next storm due sometime Friday. Went to see the Vanderbuilts' Breakers which was nothing short of palatial. Not Hearst Castle mind you, but this was only a summer home and done to the nines. Grabbed some NE Clam Chowder from Black Pearl. YUMMY! and headed for slightly warmer Rockland County.

There is a REASON all these mansions were only used for 8 weeks a year. Baby it's COLD in Newport in January!!!

I would like to go back in summer sometime though when all the homes are open and more walking could be enjoyed. I dearly wish we could have done the Cliffwalk but between the wind, the snow and my ankle it wasn't to be.

So back to ex-ops in the morning but you will all have to forgive me if I focus on WARM places for the next few days.

We did Belcourt Castle the last time we were there, Can you believe they only paid $24,000 for that place in Auction. I guess you never made it to Castle hill.

Frank Castle HIll was in the plans. Maybe next time when it's more moderate temperature and weather wise.

We did get to Sardela's which was very good.

I will say if I hadn't used one of my cheap throwaway weeks for this exchange I would have been a lot more disappointed with it. Not for the Inn at the Harbor which was fine and beautifully located but because we like to be out and about all day and it just wasn't happening.

I can imagine. You can't beat a warm, sunny place unless you want to go skiing or snow boarding, etc.
