  • Interval Exchange/Getaway

Is it me or does anyone else who own's a timeshare feel like they're being ripped off. I bought my timeshare about 7 years ago in Cape Cod. Back then the maintenance fee was $275 and now it's $495.

Here is why I feel I'm being ripped off. Why is it they can offer Getaways for an area and in some cases the same hotel but I can't do an exchange . So let me get this straight, they collect your money for membership fees and maintenance fees and then they put those units as getaways and you can't exchange for them. I think that's called double dipping and I think it's time to get a lawyer to investigate this organization.

I've already lost a week trying to find a place we could go. This is totally unreal and they shouldn't be allowed to do this.

If you want to see what I mean, look for a getaway in Aruba in July/August and there will be some units available, then try to exchange and nothing comes up.

Nope. I haven't had that experience with II. Our family has even called Interval and they let us use an exchange week for a Getaway (depending on where the inventory came from). Of course, it depends on trade power of the week you're using, too.

Interval also allows you to search first without depositing, so there's really no need to lose a week.

Interval doesn't have anything to do with your maintenance fees to your resort. Interval is an exchange company and they don't own any weeks.

I'm afraid you have a trade power or resort quality issue. I see plenty of Aruba inventory (though only 1BRs or smaller) available for exchange between 7/1/09 and 8/31/09.

None of that inventory is available as a Getaway, though a lone 2BR is. They appear to be completely separate.

What resort, week and size unit is the Cape Cod you deposited? How far in advance of the check-in date did you deposit it?

II has size and quality filters that may inhibit what you are able to "see".

One thing that sometimes happens is that developers give units that are unsold to II as getaway inventory, but not as exchanges.

Also, I would think that it's possible for II to have some resorts that are strictly for the purpose of getaways, and never appear as exchanges.

The other possibility is trade power, and that goes both ways.....I am blocked from seeing what II considers "lesser quality" resorts with some of my timeshares, but I can see them as getaways. It's possible to not have enough trade power to see a resort, but be able to see it as a getaway, as well.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

If someone exchanges a unit for other services such as a cruise exchange, then that inventory goes into the getaway pool.

The new Worldmark properties are RCI only, but II does get inventory for these as getaways all the time, but they can never be exchanged through II.
