I believe those who have held their ground against constant criticism are pleased because they see that they are not alone. Fighting a lone battle is . . . lonely.

Consumers tolerate bad service every day without suing companies. The lawsuit stage signifies something more serious than bad service. It signifies a ramping up of the discontent. It signifies that it is more than just meaningless chatter on the Internet by folks who have way too much free time.
    Jimbo,

I guess we do have more in common than just a first name. I guess you could call me an RCI basher basher basher basher.

I can't believe you actually brought a thermometer to Orange Lake. That is probably something I would do. I must admit, only a sick person would do that.

On my latest trip, I actually measured the time to drive between the front gate of Orangle Lake to the front gate of the Fountains II at the Sheraton Vistana this week. It was 14 miles and it only took me 16 minutes to do it. I was surprised. I didn't hit any traffic on Saturday, April 8 at 2:46 pm.

Also, I wondered how good the new 429 toll road was that cuts through Orange Lake. So, I drove it to Universal Studios by cutting over the Florida turnpike. It was 28 miles in 30 minutes. Again, no traffic.

      Proactive measures

As timesharers, we need to be taking proactive steps with regard to exchanging. We can hope that the lawsuits one way or another will produce some positive changes in direction at RCI. Class action lawsuits will need to make some corrective changes to justify the attorney fees. We can hope that the reform will be meaningful, and two seperate lawsuits increases the odds of that, as each tries to accomplish something the other did not, even if, as likely they eventually get joined.

What we can do now is to try and grow the competition in exchanging. We can urge our resorts to dual affiliate with II. We can also urge our resorts to educate their members about using the independent exchange companies. We need to be talking to managers and HOA board members about these subjects or bring it up at the annual HOA meeting. At least two of the independents, Platinum and DAE will even pay the HOA's newsletter postage if they include an exchange company brochure with the newsletter.

        Carolinian,

On this subject we are in complete agreement. I would love nothing more than for every Resort to be affiliated with every exchange company. Competition is good.

In the Great Streetlight confrontation of Aug. 17, the OF neighbors did say I was sick in the head 21 times in less than 1/2 hour. It was a very well rehearsed confrontation on their part. I pretty much just listened and recorded.

Jim - just because you're paranoid, it doesn't mean they're not out to get you.
“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

            “You shouldn't wear that body.”
