  • When RCI cancels due to weather?

We just got a call from RCI that Wyndham Plantation outside of Atlanta in Villa Rica (one of our most FAVORITE) places is closed due to the recent floods. We were scheduled there next week.

Your RCI experts: What is the ruling? The RCI gal was unable to find anything else is GA at all for Oct 2-3rd (we are not in Big Caboe so cold have staye dhere) - even though we wanted to spend the weeks with several friends in the ATL area), Does RCI give you your week and exchange fee back f theyare unable to match, or not ? since it is "not their fault".
    Thanks for answers.

According to the terms and conditions, they do not give you your deposit back nor refund the exchange fee. The relevant paragraph is 13.a.v. in the current Weeks T&C.

That doesn't mean you can't ask. In practice, they might be more lenient.

OK, it's good to know the rules.

The gal was real nice and said she would try to find something else....I'll hope for the best

That is correct they do not have to give you another week based on the terms and conditions and will tell you that is why they will sell you trip insurance, Anyhow a few years ago we were confirmed to go to Morritt's Grand, Grand Cayman in December. When hurricane Ivan hit we thought we could still go but the resort but it was heavily damaged and did not open for about a year. In addition AA would not let us change our flight to Grand Cayman or anywhere else without paying the re-booking penalty since the airport was open by the time we were supposed to go. We told the airline that our resort was not open but they didn't care.

Anyway RCI let us rebook our vacation using the same week to exchange for Punta cana but charged another exchange fee. AA re-booked our flights to Punta Cana and we payed the re-booking penalty. Although it cost us more it ended up being one of our best vacations to Melia Paridisus resort and we got to go to Morrits Grand after they opened a couple of years later so we made the best of the situation and still had a great vacation.
