  • Exchanging weeks without RCI possible?

    Hi,
I just registered to this forum - because I am also owning a timeshare.
I never exchanged some weeks, but I am interested to do so in future. My resort told me that I will have to be a member of RCI or so in order to exchange my weeks. But as I know, the resort is already member of the Wyndam group.
So, I am very interested if anybody can tell me if it is possible to exchange also weeks within the Wyndham resorts. Are there any other members of any Wyndham resort?
My timeshare is situated in Mexico, Playa del Carmen, Viva Wyndham Maya Club.

Although it is part of the Wyndham, it does not related to the 2 main Wyndham TS WM and Wyndham. So you can not exchange within these two systems. Don't know if viva Wyndam has its own exchange systems amongst its resort or not.

If you want to exchange to those resorts, you can join RCI certainly.

You may also want to check also with SFX, DAE, ... (see this link Timeshare Exchange Companies - Timeshare Forums) to see if they can accept your week, and get required verification (cooperation) from the resort management company. If they can you can exchange with them also.

If you are considering RCI, we have done more than 100 exchanges over 20 years.

We started out like everyone else, ill informed and way over-projecting, settling for lesser resorts and not knowing any better.

At about the 10-year mark we learned the system and had a several-year run of great resorts when and where we wanted them.

That has all ended, thanks to RCI, and even the worst of the lesser resorts are not available when we need them.

But, if you are not particular and don't mind settling for less popular times, overbuilt or less popular destinations, RCI still can do that. As to whether it is a value (considering purchase price, maintenance fees, and RCI subscription & exchange fees) compared to bargains available on the Internet, is questionable.

Some of our bestest internet timeshare buddies were here last week. They are Fairfield owners and feel about the same.

      The good times are over.

It seems to me you could trade with some one else that has a timeshare, if you are both willing, without going through RCI.

You would each have to notify the resort that you has rented your week to someone, and give the name and so forth..jsut a thought.

We have a timeshare in Hiton Head SC and we have never exchanged it, but I plan to in 2010. So I guess I have to join RCI now.

Just worried if the exchanges work ok!!

That is known as a direct exchange and is very difficult to achieve . . . finding someone who has exactly what you want wanting exactly what you have . . . the reason for exchange companies. Too bad they got away from that idea, cuz it is a good one.

With the independent exchange companies, you usually get free membership and a cheaper exchange fee than with RCI, where you pay for membership and have a higher exchange fee.

              Hi Carolinian,

thank you for your answer. Which independent exchange companies could you recommend? Can you tell me some websites, please?
