  • Was this a good buy or am I a sucker??

Hi. New to this forum and timeshares in general. I purchased 30000 VRI points at Cypress Pointe Grande Villas which I was told can be transferred to weeks and then traded through RCI. Cost of purchase was $99 plus $1700 annual fee. The 30000 points are equivelant to three weeks(9000 points 3bdr weeks 5-36 or 7500 weeks 1-4/37-50. I have a few questions that I'm hoping someone can answer. What if I transfer one of my weeks in exchange for a 2 bdr unit. Should/would that be adjusted to the amount of points should I have traded for a 2 bdr unit(6500 points weeks 5-36) Also, there is the talk about trading power. Can someone help me better understand it? I could bank any week I want depending on how points I'm willing to use. Say if I bank 1 week during peak season, can I trade for any timeshare through RCI or will it always depend on availabilty. Any input is appreciated.

    Thanks

If you really like the Mouse and go to Orlando a lot, you got a great deal! A few years back resale would have been $10K. You have bought an undivided interest in a unit or group of units that is delineated as 30,000 points. Points necessary vary by season and size, you should be able to reserve whatever you would like if it's still available within the booking guidelines. You do not have access to Diamond Resorts THE Club using your points unless you pay them to rejoin THE Club. You should be able to deposit any week you reserve with RCI but unless you reserve a specific holiday week at premium points you may be disappointed in what RCI thinks is equivalent value, first lesson in RCI RED =/= Red . So not only does what you want from RCI have to have been deposited by someone else, RCI has to deem your deposit worthy. As a rule, Orlando has oversupply which means weeks from Orlando get assigned less value.

Didn't know VRI had a points system. When did they start that?
I thought they only dealt in weeks. Is this some other VRI?

I have a VRI week and have never heard of this.

VRI now manages the resort, but most of the resort was sold by Sunterra and then DRI, so much of what they had in place still exists. The points are vestiges of having been sold as THE Club and VRI has to deal with that locally at the resort when there are resales, as resales are no longer in THE Club.
