My dad past away and my mother and I have no idea how to use these as he was the one to set up all of our vacations. We have not used any points for 3-4 years now and I am now going to try and figure this out so we can start taking family vacations again. So I guess I am wondering if there is anyone out there who would be willing to help me figure this all out? Or is there a company that helps with this like a travel agent?? I think we own in Interval International, Diamond Internaitional, Sunterra I think?

First of all, welcome to TS4Ms.
Whatever you do, don't pay any company anything up front to "take your timeshares off your hands."
You will need to get some more info about exactly what you own. Interval International (II) is an exchange company. If your dad exchanged the timeshare(s) through II, they might help you figure out what you own. Sounds like maybe some Diamond points? Check out our Diamond forum here for some more specific help.
I'm sure you'll get a bill for maintenance fees soon enough, that should help you figure it out... but the sooner the better, since you'll want to start making reservations as early as possible.
Timeshares are wonderful. You just need to learn how to get the best use of your ownership. That's what we're here for!!

I am not sure from your post if you have been paying your maintenance fees or not for the last 3 - 4 years from your post. If you have not paid maintenance fees you will not be able to make reservations until you are up to date. If have paid them you can begin making reservations immediately.
It sounds as if you may have Diamond Resorts International (DRI). They have bought out Sunterra. You will need to call DRI and get information on what you have. You should look through your information to be able to provide them with a membership number. If you have access to your dad's username and password for the DRI website, that can be of help to you as well. If your dad kept accurate records of everything, all the infomation you have would be there as well. It would be easiest to first start by calling DRI and then everything else should fall in place. Interval International (II) is the exchange company that DRI uses when you want to stay in a place other than a DRI property. There are a couple of answers that you need to have.
1. Do you belong to the Club? If so, how many points do you have.
2. You want to know if you belong to a collection of resorts in DRI. If so which one? This is important because your home collection gives you and advantage in making reservations over those who are not in your home collection.
3. If you have not paid maintenance fees, how much do you owe? Are you in foreclosure?
When you call DRI, you should be able to get a lot of information from them and then you can come back to this site and many of us can help you from there.
If you have timeshares somewhere else, I would suggest you to call them too to find out what your dad owned.
Good luck.

Also, there is a DRI board here, so you might wanna go there.
If it's OK with the powers that be, you should post what/where you own.
Do not do anything . . . pay fees, etc, without asking here first. Do not trust anyone in the TS industry if they have something to gain from your actions.
Also, have you actually inherited them, as in deeds being recorded transferring them to you and the resort having been notified of the transfer? If not, you have options. Even if so, you may have options if fees are due or there are loans against them, since your accepting them may be subject to those contingencies.
You can study that with a google search.RCI Member Since 24-Aug-1989/150-plus Exchanges***THE TIMESHARE GRIM REAPER~~~Exchanging/Searching/SW Florida/MO/AR/IA/Consumer Advocacy/Estate Planning/Sports/Boating/Fishing/Golf/Lake-living/Retirement****Sometimes ya just gotta be a dick

Welcome, from a fellow DRI owner. The most important thing to do right now is to find out exactly what you own. If you can find a membership number, you can go online to DRI's website. There is a section on the website that provides your account information. It will tell you what you own and if there are any outstanding fees due. If the TS has been willed to you, and it was a part of The Club, keep in mind that Club memberships are not transferrable. If you want to be a part of The Club, you will need to pay a fee to join. Check out the DRI forum on this site and ASK, ASK, ASK. There are many people here with lots of experience using DRI (and II, if you prefer to exchange outside of DRI). As a newbie, the company will most likely try to push you buy more points. Don't do anything until you have researched your options and have a better idea of what you own and how you hope to use it. Again - WELCOME. It's good to have you here!
