So, a Wahoo in the freezer brought a Yipee from the clerk?

If it is there I throw it out. There is no way to tell if it has been tampered with. There are mean people in the world.

The only thing we would use that has been found in the room is Coffee Filters and paper towels. We do at times leave full un opened goods if we are flying for the cleaning staff and yes I have seen them take stuff home.

                Gallon of Water
                Canned veggies
                Juice boxes
                Ice Cream
                Cans of V8

anyway - I left them in the unit - thought the staff might keep them. If not they could throw away. My DH said I should have thrown away myself.

Your thoughts? Do you throw all away?

I have to agree with your husband!
We clear everything out except unopened drinks like beer or win coolers and take everything to the dump area or home.

We do leave drinks because the maids can keep these items stored until going home and also has the resort permission to take these items home.

With over 302 units at our resort the maids and maintenance people have enough to do in a short time period and don't need to be dealing with our garbage too! We have large cans inside our parking garbage and its no big deal carrying few bags of garbage out.

That's the only kind of stuff we leave -- the question was about "unopened" things, not "garbage.."

Yes I can read! What we are not taking home is garbage to us and we do not just leave it so maids can clean it up. Our resort frowns on maids taking things from the rooms because as most times what starts out as a nice thought turns bad.

Few years ago the maids could take left behinds but then things started going missing at mid week cleanings too. From what I was told few years ago the security walked onto the shuttle bus that transports most of these workers after complaints and found many with can goods and other things from the rooms after mid week cleanings. Funny part is the fact at our resort some check in and out on only fridays, sat or sundays and this is when maids would have received items from the rooms and yes there were firings because of this.

I agree that if a resort wants items like can goods left behind they can have a donation can put out for the guest to use. But to just walk away leaving what you don't want just causes more work for others.

That is unfortunate. I always leave unopened bottles of soda, bags of chips, etc on the counter next to my housekeeping tip, assuming that the housekeeping staff would know they were welcome to the items. Taking guests' items during a midweek cleaning is out-and-out stealing.

I'm thinking we should take up a collection and give you some timeshares for free, after all you've been through

We NEVER leave unopened beer. We make sure we drink it before we leave! I plan for everyday, and 99% of the time never have anything left except a few scraps of leftovers that go in the garbage.
