  • Dae scam warning - australia & asia

From my latest "DAE News February 2010 - Australia‏" email received today.

    Scams operating in our region!
    Warning! Important information!
Australian Timeshare and Holiday Ownership Council (ATHOC) have released a warning that an illegitimate company operating under the name of Aussie Timeshares, (previously Minvacations and Movacation) should not be dealt with. This company has been linked to scams, such as taking people's money and disappearing only to open up under another name. These illegitimate operators may change their name again at any time.

We have also been made aware of a scam that is taking place in Asia where members are being approached and told that DAE is offering to' take over' their timeshare and all associated levies/maintenance fees. The spiel goes that after relinquishing your ownership you will have 30 years ‘ownership' with no fees including exchange fees. You are then asked to immediately pay a $900 admin/transfer fee, because ‘if you do it in your home country' it will cost $2,500.
None of this has any basis in truth and any members who pay will lose their $900 - so beware!

Please be aware of any unknown company trying to purchase or sell timeshare or holiday accommodation/ vouchers. We strongly urge you to ask questions and verify that any company you deal with is legitimate and always contact us if you are unsure. Additionally, you should only deal with companies that are members of ATHOC. For your referencie, the ATHOC website is ATHOC: The Australian Timeshare and Holiday Ownership Council and NZHOC website is The New Zealand Holiday Ownership Council
