  • Question about timeshare and college financial aid forms

We have 154,000 points at Daytona Beach, which is UDI (undivided interest) through Wyndham. I am going to fill out the federal student aid form since my daughter's going to college. Does anyone know if this would have to be declared on there? As far as I can find out, the net worth may have to be claimed under the parents' investments section.

I have no idea how to determine the net worth of it but am concerned with trouble if I don't claim it since it technically is deeded property.

I didn't declare our timeshare properties on any of the financial aid forms we filled out.

      Interesting

with a net sales value of under $155, and and an ongoing obligation of say $700 per year, as and investment I would guess you would need to list it as a negative number. Or maybe since it has no real value, I would advise simply leaving it off this form.

      fwiw,

      Greg

Print an eBay completed list as well as your MF from Wyndham, don't claim anything, but keep these with the copy of the form you are filing. So if anyone come back and question about it, you could show your best effort and prove that you will need to put negative value, which is against your principle. Thus you just ignore it. I am pretty sure most normal person will agree with you.

Never claimed my timeshares in all the 12 years of FAFSA's we did.

I have had to fill out the parent part of FAFSA for three years now and never claimed my TS.

Another TS owner who considered the value "0." Since I just gave a prime week away for nothing, I feel perfectly fine with that. And I agree with Greg that the ongoing MF obligation would arguably create a negative number.

I might feel differently if I had a platinum Marriott week which would turn up siginificant numbers doing a "completed auction" search on ebay.
