  • When choosing a TS to visit, is it important to you that

...the timeshare have a gym or exercise room?

    ....a restaurant on property?

    ...laundry facilities in the unit?
Life is short, live it with this awareness.

I tend to prefer restaurants in the area rather than on the property. It is a bit convenient in a time bind perhaps, but I rarely use it if I trade into a resort with its own restaurant.

A laundry facility in the unit is a definite plus, and other things being equal between two resorts, this would definitely tilt my selection toward one with this facility.

A gym or exercise facility is something that is not something I care about at all. I remember when the old Timeshare Beat did a poll on whether this mattered to timesharers, and overwhelmingly the response was that it did not matter. Indeed, as usual they had a flippant answer among their choices, which in that poll was a second negative and was worded something like ''if I wanted to exercise on vacation, I would have stayed home and mowed the grass''. Even that flippant answer got more support in the poll than those saying that having a gym was something they looked for in a timeshare.

I don't care about a restaurant or a gym, but I love laundry facilities in the unit, especially when we go away for more than a week.

My favorite timeshares are those that have a hotel/resort on site. I love using all the hotel amenities. The more the merrier.

An exception to this would be international timeshares. When traveling abroad, we are never in our timeshare/hotel other than to sleep, and maybe breakfast. In this case, location, and a good, clean, comfortable bed are most important.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Excercise facility....not important. I rarely even poke my head inside to check it out. Same with a game room.

Restaurant on site.....rarely use them. They are often too expensive for my budget and I much prefer to seek out the restaurants locals recommend.

Washer/dryer in room....love that! It's not a deal breaker, though.

The deal breaker for me is barbeques. If the place doesn't have them, I'll choose someplace else.

Having an exercise room on-site is not important to me. I would rather be walking outdoors than using a treadmill. We do love having laundry facilities in the unit, as this enables us to pack lightly. A pool is very important, since we travel to warmer destinations and I love to sit outside and grab some of those rays.

Having a restaurant on-site is nice, but we seldom make use of them, preferring to go off-site to visit restaurants in the area. I do like to book places that have either balconies or patios. We like to be able ot sit out to eat our breakfast or drink our coffee in the mornings.

Having laundry facilities inside the unit is a big plus. Since the machines are often small, I typically do one load a night, starting about the third day into the vacation. Plus, it's nice to throw the towels and wet bathing suits in the dryer after coming back from the pool. We rarely eat at TS restaurants, unless they have a snack bar or cafe for a quick bite. The most important thing I look for in a TS is peace and quiet!

It all depends on where we are going. For in-country visits a full kitchen would be almost required. In building laundry facilities are nice and in-room is even nicer. A pool is highly desirable in very warm locations. Wi-Fi is getting more important.

gym - no, never ever use

restaurant on-site - not important, but sometimes enjoy

laundry - important but not absolutely essential, at least on site

kitchen - yes important - if not, at least refrig + coffee-pot, otherwise a deal-breaker

wi-fi - yes, critical - at least internationally where the Verizon card won't work (nothing worse than spending half a day searching for internet, and we need almost daily)

nah. won't use restaurant, can work out without gym facilities. laundry is "nice to have" but not a deal-breaker since we generally only go for a week. don't care about wifi - I vacation to get away from computers. if it's overseas, can always find cyber cafe to email home that we arrived safely and that's as much as we'll do online. don't bother with that We're Fine contact domestically.

I like an in-room jet tub but hot tub on site is good enuf. This is the one non-negotiable for me. I need hot soaks as there is never time to do that at home. If in-room not jetted, I use bubble bath. Been dragging around the same little bottle of the stuff for years. So far, jets have always worked, so go with that over bubbles. I'm sure the one time the jets don't work I will have forgotten to bring the bubs.

Don't care about pools. BBQs, yeah, want them, can live without them.

                    must have full kitchen.

Most times, location will sway the decision. I won't go all the way to a beach location and not be ON the beach - across teh street is fine, but walking several blocks or having to drive is not acceptable. I will sacrifice quality for location at the beach.

This will be a fun thread - it's interesting to see how different priorities can be!

Don't care about gym or on site restaurant. In unit laundry is nice, and on site laundry is a minimum.

A gym doesn't matter to me.

A restaurant is nice but not a deal breaker. The food is usually more expensive and on the mediocre side. Nice for a quick bite and I do use them but not a deal breaker if they don't have one.

Laundry facilities in the unit are important to us. I don't mind using public laundry facilities at a resort but, there's ALWAYS someone who puts in a load, then leaves it there for hours on end. It's as if they don't think any of the other guests would like to use the laundry. While I hate taking someones clothes out of the machines, after an extended period of time, I will take them out. At Custom House in Boston there was a load in one of the dryers one night when I was finishing up our clothes. Because the laundry is in the same area as the observation deck, I decided to see if that person had ever claimed their laundry from the previous night. Nope, it was still in the machine. I noted the same inconsideration one day when we were at HGVC in Hawaii. It's not a deal breaker but given the choice between a resort with laundry in the unit and one with public laundry, I'll go with the in unit most of the time.

While laundry facilities in the unit is preferable, even having them available on the premises is okay.

What I really want is a kitchen though. We tend to eat breakfast in most of the time and sometimes lunches and dinners as well.

my DH actually uses the gym if available, but not a deal breaker. sauna a BIG plus to him.

restaurant on site, might use once, maybe not.

laundry in unit most preferable, on site minimum.

                              definitely kitchen!
