  • New here and to timeshares

I am looking at getting into Worldmark/Trendwest timeshares. My siblings have them and LOVE them. I am a person who likes to do the reseach and get the best deal I can. I have some questions i hope someone can answer for me though.
    1. If I buy from a current owner, like someone who is wanting to sell all their points, will I get the same benefits and ammenities as the current owner? I was told, second hand, that transfered ownership has less ammenetites. This coming from a worldmark rep though.
    2. How do I know what I am getting is ligit? I have seen so many " sounds to good to be true" sales on Ebay and what not, any tips on buying?

I am really looking forward to being a member of the timeshare owners world, I need a vacation so bad I can taste it. My last one was on my honeymoon 14 years ago! I see my siblings and parents taking them all the time, now it's my turn. lol.
Thanks for all the input, good or bad, I need to be an informed buyer.

Not Worldmark, but all of our 6 weeks are from resales, the last three from eBay, and include extra benefits like you are talking about.

No one at the resorts gives a rip how we got them . . . all they care about is getting their fees every year.

As is said many times here, the way you know a timeshare salesperson is lying is their lips are moving.

WM/ Trendwest points are selling for around

.40 per point, some more some less. Some of the take over payment auctions get around $.85-$1.00 per point, for those that need to be financed.
Here is a nice 7K package, 7,000 WORLDMARK BY WYNDHAM PTS BIG BEAR, CALIFORNIA - eBay (item 110522955372 end time May-17-10 16:00:58 PDT)
WM is a great ownership, flexible, easy to use, trades well in RCI or II.
The transfer cost is $150 to WM and whatever the seller has added to cover the costs of the Ebay auction/Paypal, etc.

I think the only thing that doesn't transfer is the ability to use RCI points, and I can't see any real value there so really nothing is what you are giving up by buying resale.

      jmho,

        Hi Peetz!

Welcome to TS4M's! We have a dedicated Worldmark Forum here on TS4M's and while we all love it here, I'd also like to point you to WorldMark Owners Community This is a site for owners by owners-you will get everything you need to know from the folks there and then some

But, I'll start by answering your questions.

        1. Yes, you will have all the same benefits and features as the original account holder. The only exception would be if they had a feature called "Travelshare" That wouldn't transfer-but honestly that program is pretty much a gimmick to get current owners to buy more developer credits.

        2. There are some Legitimate resellers who only or mostly deal in Worldmark sales. I can provide names. The ebay sales-well, they run the gamut. What you need to know to start is that you want a "fully loaded" account with 2 years credit accumulated. For example, if the base account is 10,000 credits each year-then it's wise to buy an account that hasn't been used in a while and has 20,000 credits available with an anniversary date that is a few months out....effectively giving you 30,000 credits to use in the first year.

Also, WM charges a 150.00 transfer fee only. Some of the ebay ads are going to say closing costs, recording fees, etc. You don't really need to pay these costs. A dedicated WM reseller is only going to charge you the transfer fee or a small fee to handle the paperwork. I paid one 200.00 (150.00 transfer, 50.00 to him) Another one-just the transfer fee.

There is so much more to say but for now-I'll just say that it's great you know about resale-it really is a buyers market right now. You should do very well if you do your research and time your time finding an account to purchase. Don't feel hurried at all because there is always another deal around the corner if you miss out on one.

Do you live in the West or Pacific Northwest? WM is heavy on resorts in those areas which makes it perfect for folks in those areas-lots of drive to locations-you can vacation many places without ever getting on a plane AND you don't have to go to the same place over and over unless of course you like it. I LOVE my WM-can you tell?

I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have-there are a few other owners here too-but do check out WorldMark Owners Community It's dedicated to ONLY WM and is very informative.

Wow. thanks for all the information! I will be taking my time, but would like to be purchasing by September or October. I do live in the Pacific NW, my sister " lent" me and a couple family members for a girls week in Redmond at a WM resort, it was fabulous!
I was told a little about the RCI points and don't seem very interested in them anyway. My goal is to have enough points between me and my siblings to have a great two weeks someplace over a winter holiday ( Thanksgiving or Christmas) and be able to take mini vacations with my husband during the year, and one annual one with the kids. WM seems like a great way to meet all those goals.
          Thanks!
I will check out the WM page for owners too.
