First off, let me say I appreciate any feedback I receive on this issue. I'm an avid boater, and have learned and shared more information on forums than I could of ever imagined. Anyways, I recently bought a lake spot for $5,000 for the family to enjoy boating on the weekends. I would love to make that money back with my timeshare sale. I have a 2 bedroom floating week with maintenance fees at just under $600. I paid $3,000 for it (which I thought was cheap), and would like to sell for $8,000, which I still feel to be reasonable, to pay for our lake house (which is really a permanant camp site with RV and build ons). Is this a reasonable expectation? The timeshare is RCI points getting 61,500 annually. Again, thank you for any advice in advance.

I concur with Spence. If you could sell it for $500 + closing costs you should consider yourself fortunate. More realistically, you should just hope that you can find someone to take it off your hands for free.“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”
“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”
“You shouldn't wear that body.”

Welcome to Timeshare Forums.
Here is a link to a popular resale site - people actually rent, buy and sell frequently here.
Notice the prices for your TS - and remember these are asking prices, they will sell for less then this.
You probably would be better off using your ownership each year but if you do decide to sell, be prepared to take much less then your $3,000 purchase price.

Thanks for the replies guys. I don't needthe cash that bad, I just figured I would unload it now that I have a lake place. No way I get rid of it at a loss when i can be taking $600 vacations every year. I could probably rent my weeks out for more than you suggest I could resell. I guess with the economy in its current state, people are just handing them away to get out of the maintenance fees. My guess is once the economy gets better, the market will change.

Now is just a horrible time to try to unload a timeshare. IMHO, you paid way to much for it when you bought it but, it was still a LOT cheaper than buying direct from the developer. As mentioned, right now you'd be lucky to get $1 or even give it away. At the moment there are those who are paying upwards of $3,000 for companies to take their timeshares off their hands. Those companies then turn around and dump them on E-bay and other sites for whatever they can get plus, they're tied up with the closing company so they make a little more cash that way. With the glut of timeshares they throw on the market just to get rid of them (they've already been paid once), the resale market might not ever be a place to make money on a timeshare sale. Our timeshare and other photo's at http://dougp26364.smugmug.com/
