Part of the room rate deal that I got was that I'm required to go on the 90 minute tour of their facility. I'd prefer to skip it but then they charge me the full price for the room. Just trying to get in, get out, and get to the beach. I'll probably print out several sheets including the current price for rentals, the current price for re-sales.

We did the same in 2005 when we decided to come back to timesharing in Lake Tahoe. We had the offer for Marriott in Tahoe and when checking in we were in a one bedroom{studio section} and not the one bedroom we were offered. I asked why I would think of buying when you don't even let us stay in the one bedroom full unit and was told there booked and if I have a problem then tell timeshare sales!

We stayed one night and spent five minutes in the sales telling sales same thing and was given the free dinner. Marriott spent next two years offering us a sorry return gift of three nights in a full condo which we never used. We went back up the hill and bought our old timeshare resort unit back.

It seems obvious to me that Spence was responding to the OP that Marriott was a generally decent operation. He quoted you below the his post to beach_bumming as backup for that thought. I don't see a word of his post being directed at anything you wrote.

Of course, I suppose there could be some under the table interplay going on between the two of you - in which you and Spence are slinging coded insults at each other. If that's the case I'm ignorant of such, and wish to stay ignorant of such, and would ask that the two of you conduct such activities in private.

Yes, it is true but I didn't have the nerve though to wear it when we did an update at the Marriott. I agree with Beags that I have never had a pushy or nasty sales person at the Marriott yet and they will take no for an answer but stayed polite and amicable too. I always feel guilty taking an update so tell them right upfront that we are not interested in buying so they can make the presentation real short and move on. They say that it is a number game so time is money.

The bright green TS4MS' shirt works well too to meet other timeshare forum people at the resorts!

NEVER say you can't afford the place. That a cue that you're somewhat interested and they will keep badgering you with new figures until you give them a yes!
Even if you come out really liking the place, tell them you absolutely will not make any decision OR sign any papers until you have had some time to think it over.

That is an absolute lie, like some stories I've heard about DRs on beaches, but who remembers them.

The power that be on TUG did not like being called Czar Brian(whatever his name is), just like he calls Westgate King David, there's no difference.....and before that I posted a For Rent ad one day early! at the time I was always modifying the list daily and the moderater had a hissy fit when her scolding disappeared, then they changed the rules so that it was ileagle to 'erase' a moderators scolding and they also changed the time limits for modifying posts, so, I have been good for TUG even though BM3 spouts whatever.

Getting back to the OP.

If you signed up for the 90 minute tour, be prepared to attend for that long.
Marriott is a first class operation and will not pressure you to buy. They will explain their program, ask you why you were interested and if you say no, they will gift you. No problem.
It is actually a worthwhile presentation and you might learn some info that will be useful in the future....but going trying to get out sooner is breaking your contract with them - doesn't seem worth it to me and just not the right thing to do.

Thanks for the reply. I don't mind putting in the 90 minutes, but I've seen several people talking about how it is more like two to three hours. That I'd like to avoid. I'd also like to avoid the hard sell. I tend to get snippy when I get a hard sale sales person. I'm sure Marriott would like for me to continue staying at their hotels.

What's the gifting business? Free toaster or is it just them validating my contract?
