  • International Event Coordinators

My wife and I received a phone call from International Event Coordinators asking if we would be interested in selling our week with Mayan Resorts this year.
Has anyone ever dealt with or know anything about them?

    Thanks

    Rick

International, global = big name often used by small con artists.

red flag#2--they need you to send them some money upfront.

I received the same phone call... They offered $3k/rental for upto 10 wks. They said they would pay upfront and cover all maintenance costs from an escrow acct.

I received a contract from them and it seemed legit. There is nothing that says I have to pay for anything.

I looked the company, website, and address up on the BBB and there is nothing there.

      Did you make a decision?
      Thanks,
      Keith

I would not sign a contract with a company I could find nothing about. An escrow account implies you give them money to put in escrow to pay the MFs. Trust required. You can pay your own MFs.

Is it too good to be true?

We've now had several emails and phone calls from International Event Coordinators. wondering if anyone has worked with them. I also can't find anything in BBB. They say no money upfront but 5% after cash recieved, $2,800 for a week at Bliss Riviera Maya, Mexico

They do appear to be a legitimate company. Here's a link to their website and the resorts they work with:
            IEC:RESORTS
The place seems to be just what the name implies, a company that puts together large gatherings, most likely for corporations or some type of large-group meeting or convention. Since the company is trolling for units in Mexico, I would guess they are trying to get enough rooms in anticipation of some type of big event - or to market room availability to prospective clients.

              international event coordinators

DO NOT DO ANYTHING BUSINESS WITH INTERNATIONAL EVENT COORDINATORS! Had a lawyer friend look over the contract and it is a lose, lose, lose deal for time share owners and win, win for them. If you sign they will now be part owners of your time share and "they can do anything they want" as co owners of the time share. Poorly worded contract but in the end they win time share owners lose, lose, lose!!

Stay away from this deal. Makes you wonder just how much they paid Mayan Restorts to get all of you information. If sounds to good to be true then it really is!!

BBB is receiving information from caller(s) claiming International Events Coordinators (IEC) of Tulsa, OK has contacted them about the rental or purchase of their timeshare. When one timeshare owner asked IEC how his contact information was obtained he was told it was given to IEC from the group that owns his timeshare condo.

According to callers, IEC offers to rent the consumer's timeshare for a "too good to be true" price. The company then requires timeshare owner to set up escrow with their escrow company only, Resort Escrow Exchange of Liberty Lake, WA, and to deposit money in escrow to secure the rental payments. This escrow group also requires you to authorize them to charge your credit card to wire funds. The agreement paperwork for this transfer is merely designated to a "To Whom It May Concern," a huge red flag.

BBB of Eastern OK obtained a copy of an “Exclusive Rental Contract” that IEC is using. The address listed on the document for IEC is for a shopping mall located in Tulsa, Oklahoma. When BBB investigators contacted the management of the shopping mall to verify the address for IEC, BBB was informed IEC is not, and never has been located at the given address. BBB serving Eastern Oklahoma has made attempts to obtain more information from IEC. The company has yet to return BBB calls.

On August 2, 2010, and another occasion, the BBB of EWA, NID and MT left a message with Resort Escrow Exchange of Liberty Lake, WA to address concerns. The company did not respond to BBB. BBB made one last effort to contact the company on August 12, 2010, and was able to reach Laura Hodge, who stated that she was co-owner of the company. Ms. Hodge was unable to confirm or verify any proper registration and/or licensing for the company, and stated that they were a “satellite office” only. She then sent BBB to its Legal Department. The Legal Department was answered by a John McFarland, who did not state his position, but stated that he was not the attorney for the company, but “handled such matters” for the company. Mr. McFarland stated that his company is not public, but private, and that they are not required to register or be licensed in the state of WA to do what they do. Mr. McFarland stated that BBB could visit them at any time

As of August 2, 2010, this company is not properly registered as an escrow agent in the state of Washington with the Department of Financial Institutions. BBB is also unable to find any proper business registration for this company with the WA Department of Licensing and the WA Secretary of State.

The address used by this escrow service is a business complex in Liberty Lake, WA, with several suites in it. This escrow group does not designate a suite number in its address it has posted at its web site, and BBB confirmed that there was no escrow service operating in that building with current tenants there. Also, as of August 9, 2010, mail delivered to this company’s address by BBB has been returned “unable to be delivered.”

personal testimony: Do Not Make a Deal

Unfortunately for my husband and I that we did not see your comments before we paid International Events Coordinators and Resort Escrow Exchange 997.00 for what was to be a title search to verify our ownership in the Mayan. We were promised the money would be paid back during the final sale of our time share weeks. I became suspicious after we paid the money into a Mexican Bank and the lady who solicited us by using the name Laura Hodge at IEC did not return our 25 phone calls. I too called the number in Tulsa, Okahoma only to find out that their office did not exist at the location they said they were located. This was in a Tulsa mall called Woodland Hills. When this Laura Hodge was questioned by phone she said that they were there at Woodland Hills but their office was hidden from the public and only by request could someone visit them. i sent a friend to visit with her but conveniently she had to leave early and was already gone for the day ( ten minutes after she had talked to me on the phone) The person at Resort Escrow Exchange who actually took care of the payment said that further payment was needed for the Mexican taxes but this would be repaid also upon final completion of the sale of weeks. This was too suspicious. We told him to cancel the deal and to send us the 997 dollars back. The money has never been returned as promised> Another sign that we have been misled and that neither can be trusted. We hope that this information will help someone else from being misled. Unfortunately, even the credit card company used to pay the money could not even track the company to which the money was paid.

My husband and I just came to the realization what a mistake we made by sending IEC approximately $4500.00. We investigated them including doing verbal references with four other customers in four states. Have you filed any formal complaints? What can be done about this? We made wire transfers; called our bank only to find out even they cannot go after these people. IEC will not return our phone calls now. However, the day after we were supposed to receive our money the contact person we were dealing with said the Mexican government would not accept IEC's money (they supposedly split the tax with us) and that 7 other owners were in the same boat. They would get back to us. Clearly, that never happened.

Thanks for any information you can give us!

The title search fee should have been a dead giveaway of the scam.. The ownership in Mexico is not deeded, so there is not even a chain of title to be searched...

Sorry you were taken.. Report the fraud to the AG for each state involved- as well as to the United States Postal Service if any part of the transaction involved mail..

I just got the same kind of offer from INTLPRI

I have been getting phone calls from a man calling himself Mike O'leary.
He says he is with International Properties & Resorts Inc. He sent me an offer letter offering me 3000/week for 5 weeks of my timeshare in PV. He said they were trying to put together a block of units for group.

I questioned him about if there was any need for money up front, and he said no. He then said something about an escrow account. Which as a canadian, i have not had experience with.

I said i would need to check with the resort to see if they know anything about them, and he said that they do not do business with the resort, because it something to do with tax receipts for the business that was renting the unit ( RED FLAG)

I looked them up on line and they have a nice little website, but really my daughter could put something like that together in a day.

I looked them up in the BBB and they are not a member, they have no complaints, but the file has only been open since december.

Thank you for posting the previous material, and helping me to understand where the glitch could be in this offer. I have already learned the timeshare mantra the hard way that "what sounds to good to be true probably is". Thank you to this site for getting this info out to people.

The line about assembling units as a group and setting up an escrow account to manage the transaction is a scam setup that has been recurring frequently. Here's a link to a thread about a scam built on these lines in which I estimate the scamsters took away somewhere around $500,000 to $1,000,000 over the course of about one year.

When we were in PV last month, we went to dinner with some friends who live in Nuevo full-time. They told us that if we got called from someone wanting to rent one of our MP or GM units for a very high price, to pass on this opportunity. Our friends have neighbors who work for Grupo Mayan and were told that there was a scam by some company that promised to rent your week for big bucks! This could very well be the company.

                              Don't do it!

My recommendation is to call the company after hours to see what the message says and/or leave a message and see if they return the call.

My experience with International Event Coordinators is they will have a simply voice recording saying "Please leave a message" and they will not return voicemail.

The guy that kept calling my was Terry McFarland. Why don't you call him by that name and see what the reaction is.

I'm sure you'll see this is a farse.
