  • Confused with RCI

    Hi everybody ,

I am a bit confused on this matter and would really appreciate if someone can help me.

My wife and I bought our first RCI week a few years ago ( Dominican Rep.) and use it every year to travel as we are able to exchange it to better spots . Last year, we bought our first RCI points package , and odd year 40,000 points at Summer Bay Resort ( SBR ) . We really enjoyed SBR and this year we decided to add more RCI stuff.

I decided to use EBAY this time since buying directly from the SBR resort made no sense economically . I won an auction that gave me exactly the same package I had bought (odd year 40,000 points at SBR and I received a gift for winning the auction ( a red week for a 3 BR at SBR ) Total price for the deal was $77 plus fees , so about $277 total . It lowered the average cost and altought the fees are a bit high , we were pleased with with we had :

    1 week in Dom. Rep
    1 week at SBR
2 40k odd year points at SBR
I'm facing a couple of problems so far :

    RCI

I asked RCI if the two similar 40k could be merged into one account but I got the following answer :

Due to the uniqueness of your membership through Summer Bay, the two memberships cannot be combined

Will I be able to use both accounts to use the total points ? ( newbie on points )

    Summer Bay Resort

    I'm not American so I don't know if there's something wrong but here's what's going on :

I quickly received warranty deeds from the company I had bought the units but SBR doesn't seem to have any trace of the transaction ; it has been almost three months since the transaction and SBR is clueless about what's going on ; they don't seem to know who owns these units and I'm pretty sure I own the units .... Is this normal delays or do you think something is wrong here ??

Any advice on what I should do ?

    Many Thanks , klister

Are you saying you have more than one RCI point account, one for each of the 40K points?

Who did the closing for your purchase? Normally the closing company will send the info to the resort with copies of the document and informed them you are the new owner. Or you can send them a copy of the deed and sales contract informing them you are the new owner and to update their records.

      Are the deeds legal?

Were the warranty deeds filed with the appropriate government office? That is, do they have government stamps and/or other official additions to the deeds that the closing company prepared?

        Need to follow up

I also had a problem when I purchased my RCI points account at Smmer Bay LV through Ebay, although not the same as yours.

First it took about 4 months until by deed was recorded. I then had my RCI points account set up by transfer of unused 2009 and 2010 points from previous owners. I thought everything was fine until I tried to log on to my Summer Bay owners account and called Summer Bay to help me log on. This is when problem started. They told me account was set up as a fixed weeks account not points. Called ebay seller and they told me it was points account and I had already gotten an RCI points membership account number. This went on for 2 more months going back and forth with me needing to always follow up between seller, transfer company and Summer Bay until I finally got someone at Summer Bay who quickly changed my account from fixed to points which I can now access on-line through my owners account.

Bottom line is you must follow up or it will probably not get straightened out. In my case even though I started off with 210,000 RCI points ( for the two years) going forward with 2011, Summer Bay would not have deposited additional points into my account without me getting it corrected.

Yes , I got a RCI account opened when I bought from the resort ( SBR ) and I had a second one opened when I bought the second identical one on EBAY . RCI said it wouldn't merge the 2 accounts. why ????

I bought the units from a company called THE TIMESHARE COMPANY , a company from Waunakee, Wisconsin.

About a month later , I received the WARRANTY DEEDS stamped by a Wisconsin Notary Public . The " Grantors " were names like John Smith LLC and Smith Tours LLC . Both units bought were listed .

I also had a problem when I purchased my RCI points account at Smmer Bay LV through Ebay, although not the same as yours.
I received today an email from SBR that gave me the contract numbers related to my units . They said any other questions should be forwarded to the Crown Club Department of SBR ..

          That's what I'm going to do !!

I find all this very complicated ... Many Thanks for your replies ,

As a non-American citizen,( I live in Quebec city, Canada )

I would like to know what happens if you stop paying annual maintenance fees from timeshares located in the US ?

I guess you lose your unit but any other consequences ? bad credit in the US ?

Can it stop you from entering the US ? stopped at the border because of your bad credit in the US ?

I own 3 timeshares(TS) at Summer Bay Resort(SBR) , one bought in 2009 and the other 2 acquired from an EBAY auction. I must say dealing with SBR admin is very painful since I did not buy the last two from SBR and I think they make you pay from not buying from one of their pushy salesperson when you visit their resort.

So , dumping these SBR units is a possibility but that’s not my goal :

My goal is to bring the family to Summer Bay Resort ( party of 5 ) in November 2011 to hopefully cheer the safe return of our sun Philippe , a soldier from the Valcartier Military Base in Quebec city , Canada . who.s leaving for Afghanistan on Nov 13 th . Phil is a elite trooper that will be assigned to a US camp base to fight with American troops.
He’ll be fighting side to side with US soldiers !!

God bless our boys , God bless America

            Be safe boys
