  • Just bought timeshare, II and ICE

    Hi everyone,

I just purchased a time share from Kings Creek Plantation in Williamsburg, VA, I would like to know other experiences with Interval International and ICE Platinum? Please let me know anything asap, I still have time to back out. IS it really worth it, or are there additional fees, etc that I should be aware of?

    Thanks

King's Creek Plantation in Williamsburg, Virginia - Timeshare Sales and Resales by Owner on My Resort Network
If you paid full buyer price, back out. If you really like the resort I have attached a page from My resort Network. You can buy at the resort for as little as $2,000.
If you search further on the internet you may get cheaper again.

      Rescind now!!!!!!!!!!!

Just in case you missed my title, RESCIND NOW!!!!!!!!!!!

You can find any timeshare resale for 90% less that retail, unless of course money is something you want to get rid of, then by all means continue with this over priced retail purchase,

      jmho,

        Hello
Like me I believe you are new at TimeShares...This forum is wonderful for learning about TimeShares. It looks as if you just joined. Listen to the advice here. Many of the people have been buying, trading and selling their timeshares for years.

I listened and read old posts etc...

        Good Luck

        Keep us posted

If you decide to rescind (back out) follow the written instructions exactly, and keep proof of date of postage, etc. We here love timeshares, and many of us purchased from developers until we learned about the resale market. You get the exact same product (a week of timeshare usage) but pay many thousands of dollars less by purchasing resale. You can go online to ebay and look at what timeshares are selling for, as well as looking at resale listing sites.
In terms of trading in II, there are lots of nuances that affect trade power, like if you own a prime week unit in an area with few timeshares, your trade power will be increased. Also, some of the big chains like Westin and Marriott give their owners priority in II so that it is more difficult to trade into those using another brand timeshare.
You should rescind NOW and hang around here until you figure out what works best for you, then purchase resale. All the best.

I paid $4900, is interval international easy to do with? How about ICE, during the presentation I kept hearing how great ICE is. Is it really what they say it is?

              II and ICE

Thanks for the information, yes I am new to timeshares, are they really legit? They make it sound so easy. Is ICE a good one to work with, do you really get good deals through them? What timeshare program is best to work with, I have heard that RCI was difficult. Any other information would be greatly appreciated. I am just not sure about the whole time share thing. Is it good to purchase one or is it better to just go on vacations through Expedia or something? Is deeded better?

First I hope you have rescinded your purchase in a timely fashion. You need to do your homework before you purchase anything.

Timeshares are for the most part legitimate. They are also legally binding. It makes sense if you buy resale and purchase weeks or points in a system that wll best serve your needs most of the time and exchange for occasional needs.

I'm surprised, in a way, to see ICE being promoted again. They never seem to die off. They are not an "exchange system" per se. You give them your week in exchange for points which can be redeemed towards cruises, etc. Please notice that you will not get a cruise for two when you gve them your week. You will get a certain amount off the price. Certainly you could do better just buying a cruise package elsewhere.

Buying any timeshare for access to ICE is a big mistake. ICE is not a good deal from what I've seen.

You seem to have far too many questions you need to get answered to be buying anything yet. Timeshares - some really great ones - are available for virtually nothing and there is no reason to rush into any purchase.

If you have the opportunity as stated rescind (get out) of your current contract. Take a little time and find out what is out there and decide what you want to do. What you have signed on for does not sound like a good choice for you.

scJordan - u have gotten very good advice.....CANCEL/rescind now!
Then do your homework....ICE is generally not a good deal.
I love timesharing but research first before u buy.

What exactly are you getting for the $4900? Is it an actual deeded week of timeshare?

RCI and II are the major trading companies. Both are easy to work with. If you ever want to exchange there just may not be what you want available at the time - so you have to adjust your plans sometimes.

I assume ICE is some sort of discount program for renting condos. If so it seems most of these programs are renting off-season inventory. If you join RCI and/or II they have discount rentals available also.

Rescind now. We bought at King's Creek a few years back, then rescinded and bought resale. You can get a nice high-season Cottage on eBay for about $100 or less.

ICE is not worth it (I don't know anyone who's used them successfully), but if you want it, you can become a member for a per-year fee, like II and RCI.

Worse - ICE is a cruise exchange. But the exchange isn't your week for a cruise - which could possibly be a feal - but merely a small discount for your timeshare week that, in most cases, could be found on the web for more than they are giving you in so called trade value. Just not a good deal.

maybe owning isn't the best way

The big guys - RCI, II and a few others - offer a decent, but far from great, value in trading your ownership use for another. Unfortunately both have raised the fees they require - membership as well as a per trade fee - to the point where it is tough to get good value for what you pay. It is actually so out of whack that today buying a timeshare week with the idea of trading it most of the time is a very bad plan. If you buy a week the only real value is use which keeps costs down to the annual fee only (and perhaps a small amount for the original purchase prorated over the years of ownership). Don't by a week now to trade.

If trading around various resorts rather than use at the resort is your main goal today that calls for a points system built to do just that. There are many from Wyndham, Marriott, Bluegreen and on and on as well as RCI. All but RCI need to be BIG to have real value. If they don't have many internal choices its almost as bad as the old weeks trades. Inventory is key as are the costs involved.

To be brutally frank unless you own to use - meaning use your week or your points in the internal system - then you are better off just renting rather than owning anything now.
