DW just asked me how I voted.

She pointed out the 100-plus great vacations we have had and I pointed out the wording of the poll, how you feel right now.

Were it not for the atrocious business model of the exchange company(ies), where we know good stuff is going to people other than owners, and the fact that non-timeshare owners can get the same that we get (if we can get it) for less than we have in it, and with no purchase and no ongoing obligation, I would be much happier now.

The poll has had an amazing number of responses for the first day.

Unhappy...because we can't use them anymore due to health problems, but DH won't let me try to sell them or give them away. So we just keep paying the fees.

          Mostly happy here.
Why not....I just took my EOY 3BR Lockoff at Kings Creek. Spit into two and deposited both with II. I now have 2 weeks and 2 ACs in my account! I think the MF were $680. But, for 4 weeks in II I'll take it.

Granted....we hit Orlando 2-3 times a year and the rest we are ok with shoulder - so I am not looking fo the hard trades.

How do you go from timeshare places to regular hotels? Seriously....I think I am spoiled.

No reason not to be happy. At the end of time, the cockroach and Orlando timeshares will still be here.

                It goes both ways.

Some in our family will not go to a timeshare because they are spoiled by the daily service and pampering provided by hotels. Simply put, when they go on vacation they do not want to have to do daily chores . . . cooking, cleaning, laundry, taking the trash out, making beds, etc.

They like for all that to be done for them.

Seriously, I think they are spoiled.

Well, there's the Motel 6, and then there's the Ritz Carlton, with a wide spectrum in between. I'm guessing JWC is thinking closer to the Ritz Carlton end than the Motel 6 end...

Even at the Motel 6 someone makes your bed for you, brings you clean towels every day, takes the trash out, vacuums the carpet, and keeps a light on for you?

PS: Not to mention the free soap and shampoo. I have plenty of little bottles of shampoo, but have run out of those little soapies.

I am happy - even with the changes - I still feel timesharing works for me.

I am a planner so 2011 is mostly booked. 2012 plans are tentatively scheduled for a family trip to Hawaii with children and grandchildren - no way could I spend the bucks it would cost to bring them all (11) if I didn't have the units to trade.

My feeling too. The big resort developers see you coming and going. They are in total control of what you own and keep raising the fees.

We are still happy with our little independent resorts where the owners control the HOA but I would not buy a timeshare again even at a bargain price. There are too many good deals available on the Internet if you can travel outside the school holidays.

Mostly Happy. Have had some pretty good luck with exchanges, lately. Don't like the increasing costs, but have the same issue with Motel Cost. There are some really good travel deals out there, right now, but when the economy improves, a lot them will probably go away and timesharing will look even better

Mostly Happy. If I could use our ownership as RCI Points, it would cap off to Totally Happy. Even after 13 years in timesharing, we still find great value and fun vacations. Just got back from one.

Maria, we were so sure that we'd no longer travel much with the whole gang once they were out of high school. Now, they're all "poor college kids"... and they bring along their friends too! No way that we could afford to host a crowd once or twice a year if we didn't have timeshares ... and their full kitchens! Extra large cabin rentals in the mountains and beach houses - all during prime season - would be much more expensive. Forget 3-5 motel rooms plus restaurants. Besides, we'd have no place to gather for our marathon game nights of Monopoly or Texas Hold 'Em. And the resort pools and amenities are usually much better than those at hotels/motels that we can afford.

That's a big "IF" for us. When it's just the two of us, we use Priceline or look for a last minute deal. But group travel in the offseason is impossible for us now and it likely will be, for at least another five years.

But honestly, we usually find the hotel rooms such a step down, even in the quality of the bedding. I guess it's because we stay in nicer timeshares and only average hotels. To us, hotels (even nicer ones) and motels say "transient travellers" while timeshares and condos say "settle in and relax". We never really relax in a hotel room - just sleep, shower and go. In our timeshares (even the smaller 1BRs), we relax, particularly when bad weather invites us to nap or spend a little more time in. We don't like the noise of hotel housekeeping knocking on our door or the door next to ours or across the hall in the mornings. Timeshares work as well if not better for us today than ever. Yes, the fees have risen. So have food, gas and sightseeing. Just the way it is. Internet deals are great for those who can take advantage. We just prefer the sure thing with our scheduling needs right now.

I remain impressed by both the number participating in the poll and the quality of the responses.

                              Thanks.

Very happy with our timeshare and love the resort and Lake Tahoe.

We have owned two different times selling years ago and going hotel route for about ten years before returning and buying at same resort again.

We did sell one of our units this July 4th week well staying up there only because it was just to large for us with daughter moving to Texas next week.
