  • Bluegreen - Oasis Lakes - where did my week go?

    Hi All
As a newbie I am pretty desperate having had the most frustrating time in my life trying to get my week released so I can deposit with RCI or even use it in a different week at the same resort.
I have a deeded week 51 3br flex unit fully paid up on fees. I rang last week to ask for the week to be released to RCI so I could exchange for a unit in the keys. I was told that I no longer had a week as it was a flex and someone else had already used it because I had not called sooner.

This is the first time this has happened in over 10 years of ownership and Bluegreen are adamant that they will not give me a week although if someone else cancels their reservation I could get that.

I am due to fly with my extended family in January 2011 (paid for flights so cannot cancel). The earliest avaiability Bluegreen have to release to me is March 2011, which is conveniently outside of my 30day window.
End result no exchange but 8 people on their way to Florida with nowhere to stay!
    HELLPPP!!!

is your week in Vacation Club or an old deeded week? If it is a flex week, don't you need to confirm at a certain time? If it is truly a fixed week, they can't give it away.

For Oasis Lakes Flex weeks, you need to lock in your reservation by I think it is 5 months prior to check in. Otherwise, any Oasis Lakes 3br unit owners can elect that week instead of their own.

It is true, you probably waited too long before securing your week. I would do it more than 6 months from check in every year you want to use it.

        Clarification Please.

Are you saying that you just now called to deposit an Oasis 3BR week 51 of this year in RCI to EXCHANGE to the florida keys for January of 2011?

If so that is a slim and none chance. Ever.

What dates and areas will you accept is the next step in helping you find anything at this juncture through RCI or anywhere else.

If you want to go to the Keys, then I would recommend that you rent your 3br unit for week 51 at Oasis Lakes and rent the unit you want in the Keys. Forget RCI, you won't get it there.

              missing the point

              Hi All

thanks for the responses but you all seemed to have missed the point. I was NOT looking to deposit my week to stay at Oasis. I was trying to get them to deposit my week with RCI. Something they point blank refused to do for over 2 hours.

Whether I can or cannot get an exchange in the Keys is also missing the point - the point is Bluegreen refused to let me have my week to exchange anywhere at all.

The latest update however is that I emailed Customer services to try one last time after digging out my deeds and quoting the paragraph reference that confirms I was right all along and, SURPRISE I got my week sent to RCI within hours.

The interesting thing was, I got copied into an internal mail by mistake which stated "W (customer services contact) had tried to call MR GBT back several times to confirm the RCI exchange details but was unable to reach him". Now, bearing in mind I spent over 2 hours on the phone pleading for my week to be sent to RCI and being told I did not have a week to exchange, I find this incredibly hard to stomach.

I am now wondering if the customer services team get bonuses if they manage to convince owners not to exchange or deposit their weeks.

Fact - Bluegreen tried to illegally prevent me from using my deeded week.
Fact - despite being told for over 2 hours I did not have a week, I now have this deposited with RCI.

Is this really worth $800+ - I can hire a condo for less than that without any hassle!!

GBT - reservation in Marathon Keys, 2nd week Jan - Done!

                GBT,

I think you should look at post number 3 again. The issue you have is that you waited too long to secure you 3br unit. The way that Oasis lakes works is that if the owner of a given fixed week does not contact Bluegreen to secure their usage for the given use year, their week becomes available to any other fixed week owner with the same use type from 6 months prior to check in of your owned week. At 5 months prior to checkin, owners can change unit types.

What happened is that another 3 bedroom fixed week owner at Oasis Lakes booked your unit within the reservation window and they now own your week.

All you need to do is contact Bluegreen to have them forward you a copy of the Oasis Lakes reservation rules which all Oasis Lakes owners must follow.

Lastly, if your goal was to deposit your week 51 into RCI, then what you can do is book another week and deposit it. I would pick Easter week if it is still available.

So, not all of us are missing the point. What you are missing is that the reservation rules at Oasis Lakes allow for some floating of your use week and you must be careful to follow those rules or you will have a repeat of the issue you had this year.

By the way, you can contact Bluegreen now to reserve your 2011 use week. Then, you can either use, rent or deposit your week.

                  time to close this thread

                  Thanks Bocabum99.

My goal was to deposit a week for exchange. bluegreen refused. They told me I was too late to use my week.

Lastly, if your goal was to deposit your week 51 into RCI, then what you can do is book another week and deposit it. I would pick Easter week if it is still available. I know - that is exactly what my post was about and exactly what bluegreen refused to allow me to do. I did not want to reserve I wanted to deposit. According to the rules I can deposit with RCI within a 14 month window.

So, not all of us are missing the point - 'fraid you are - I read post 3 and the rest of the replies and most missed the point.
I was not looking to secure a week at Oasis Lakes. I don't know how many times I have to say that.

Moderator - can you close this thread. I don't want any more responses. Bluegreen gave in and deposited my week and have already released my 2011 week. There is nothing else to be said.

You are having a difficult time communicating with us on this message board and it is the root cause for why you are having issues communicating with Bluegreen. I have owned over 50 weeks at Oasis Lakes, so I know the rules extremely well. Based on what you have said on this thread, I would have told you the same thing the Bluegreen people told you. If you want to prevent yourself from having issues going forward, we can help you with the language that will work best to achieve your goals. If the status quo is fine with you, have a great vacation.

I agree its the language you are using here and with RCI/Bluegreen that caused your problem. To deposit something into RCI (currently-the procedure may be changeing in the future) you need to reserve a week at your resort to deposit. If you don't confirm your reservation before the 5/6 month mark "your week" is gone but you may reserve a different week to deposit. If you don't care which week to deposit it doesn't matter and you can ask for "the best available week" to deposit. Luckily you got a week that still provided enough trading power to get you what you wanted. The suggestions here (and I think you have been missing their point) is that if you want "your week 51" which may have more trading power than other available weeks you will need to let Bluegreen know that you will be using it to deposit during the appropriate window.
