Finally figured out how to "new post", I think.

My TUG membership is coming due. I don't exchange...as of yet. Should I renew? Same is true of my mag "Timesharing Today". Do I need these media or should I just rely on Big Frank and friends advice. Should I keep enduring Tony G's; Bush, moms and apple-pie bashing? Where is Ann Landers when I need her?

Personally, I would forget about Timesharing Today. Not worth it to me.

On the other hand, TUG is a great value. The reviews alone are worth the price. I also like the free classifed ad you can use.

One of TUG's great strengths is certainly its Resort Reviews database and to the best of my knowledge there isn't anything comparable on any other site at this time. The question to ask yourself first is whether or not you are likely to have need of any of the features of TUG that are only available to members. If the answer is NO, then ask yourself if you believe that a contribution to the TUG running costs is a worthwhile investment for the future.
If the answer to the second question is YES, then renew your membership. If the answer comes up NO then you are free as everybody else to access the open areas.

Even tho I am a moderator here I still post and help on tug. It's reviews are well worth the cost. Plus if you spread the word they will give you an extra 6 mos of membership for free. I'm paid thru a gazillian years. TS4MS is friendlier and you can get most anything you need here but the reviews are worth it over yonder. shaggy

Timesharing Today is a great magazine.

I love the articles and feel strongly that the editors weed through the bad stuff and only print the good, therefore it is a bargain! My hubby even reads it. Now that says a lot about the publication because he will not read the internet stuff at all, says it wastes time trying to find the worthwhile information.

TUG is still great in my book. I like that they keep people from getting terribly rude, although some monitoring has been a little over the top, as of late.

TUG is a free site, supported by advertising, except unless you wish to access their resort database, the Sightings board, and the Search feature. Granted, non-members do get treated less favorably, but everyone seems to agree that paying folks (like owners) are entitled to better treatment than guests.

Sightings are more plentiful here, so charging for that Over Yonder is not that big a deal. Their resort database is unmatched, but you can ask about a resort on a forum and get as much information as a review.

As others have said, the ratings are over-rated and the reviews are about as biased as comments on the bbs.

Tripadvisor for some areas has more and seemingly more objective reviews.

There is a tiny minority of members on TUG who do continually bang on at those who choose not to become members. In fact on TUG it is not always clear when somebody has become a member as the fact is not flagged automatically. In the days before I actually took up on membership I had no problems in obtaining information. Simply ignore the few. I have actually seen the admins on TUG emphasise the fact that there is no requirement to be a member when they have seen the "Why aren't you a member" comments

I don't personally agree with people being able to give a rating to a resort without submitting a review. I totally disagree with the claim that reviews are biased. I probably read more TUG reviews than most here as I manage the European Reviews. The vast majority of reviews I have dealt with have been highly informative "warts and all" submissions.

From my fairly limited experience of TA reviews (I used the system before booking our last holiday to Hawaii and Las Vegas) the reviews there tend to be either gushing about how great a place is or totally damning in their appraisal. There seems to be no shades of grey. For T/S I would trust a TUG review before on on TripAdvisor.

This site and TUG have saved me so much money over the years, and have provided me with valuable information, introduced me to some fantastic people, have made many of my days begin with a smile, have supported me when I needed some support, etc, etc. Timesharing Today has done none of this. Guess what I would give up, what I would keep?

I agree completely, before Tug and timeshare forums I read and got a lot of great information from timesharing today and I still love to read most of the articles ( althouigh the last two magazines were not too good).

I have bought rented and sold through the magazine and made way more than I have paid for the subscribtions in both TUG and timesharing today. Lately I haven't found many bargains in either TUG or timesharing today but both led me to other sources of buying and selling timeshare weeks which has given me great results. I am a strong believer in gaining new information in anything I do and for timesharing all of these resources help me learn something new in almost ever issue or almost every week from TUG or this board
