What a coincidence! We also got a phone call with an offer to purchase our timeshare from GES. We hesitated, and had suspicions about the legitimacy, so we also did some investigating, just like rayray49.



Checking out their website, it says they've been around since 1994, and it looks simple but pretty and well put together. But it wasn't all that informative, so we did some more research.



In summary:



1. "globaleventspecialists.com" domain was created Sept 2010; strange considering the company has been around since 1994. Registration information is hidden (not usual for most companies).

2. not much on the internet about GES; again strange if the company has been successful since 1994.

3. BBBonline for San Diego shows very little; they have 1 employee.

4. City of San Diego doesn't show a business license for them.

5. the going resell prices on the internet for a similar timeshare was much lower than was being offered to us.

6. the logic of their business model didn't make sense (not that we're experts)

7. the escrow service is their's and isn't named in the offer, so we had no way of checking their service.

8. using Google Maps and Streetview, we tried to check out the establishment, but couldn't find anything definitive.

9. 411.com didn't turn up anything for GES; the reverse number look up shows "unpublished" for a name, and the reverse address look up didn't turn up anything for GES either.



All this for a company that says they've been around since 1994.



Overall, there wasn't a warm fuzzy feeling. And then we lucked out with a friend who lived in San Diego and was willing to drive by and take a look at the address! And yes, it turns out the address is for a mailbox company; no GES in the area.



So, after some research, we can only concur with rayray49 that it's a scam.

Global Event Specialists is almost certainly a SCAM

I am the one who starting this string of posts. We hired a Private Investigator in San Diego to check out Global Event Specialists (GES). In his Report, he startes that:
1. GES does not have a business license in San Diego.
2. The address given is only a drop box.
3. A reverse check on the phone number given for GES indicates an unlisted number.
4. In his opinion, GES is operating a SCAM.

We have terminated our interaction with GES. I strongly advise that everyone should consider that GES is a very sophisticated SCAM. We are registering a complaint with the Better Business Buseau. BEWARE!

Global Event Specialists main office is in Sherman Oaks, California and their actual buisness name is Global Event Consulting, LLC and they specialize in event planning. Global Event Specialists is the trade name they use for the resales. I am not stupid. After being scammed myself, I thoroughly checked out this company before doing business with them. You are just soooo negative! Unbelievable!

What High end resort are yoiu talking about?

The Grand Mayan Resort. The fee we had to pay was in our timeshare contract and we would have had to pay it no matter what company we used, even if we sold it ourselves. It is a fee charged by the resort, not by Global

Its to bad you didn't sell your timeshare through them if you wanted to sell it. We went through alot of scams before we were lucky enough to sell it. The reps were professional and very attentive. I cant sing enough praises for this company. Yes, there address in San Diego is a mail service. But there main office is in Sherman Oaks, CA and the name is Globel Event Consulting, LLC but that office only does the events. There trade name for resales is Global Event Sepcialists and they did a wonderful job for us.

There is no way that you sold this for more than you paid as the GM has only been in active sales since late 2004. The developer prices haven't increased the amount they would have for you to sell and pay the commission plus the $10,000 in transfer fees without you receiving more that what the resorts are currently charging. And no body would buy it from you and lose the VF weeks and the no annual fees when they could purchase it for less from the resort.




We have your location, we have your number, one more shill post and you will be banned.

As I was the one to start this thread, I would like to update you on the situation. When I confronted Global Event Specialists (GES) with my concerns about their authenticity, they (Marie) were quite concerned and provided me with a process to evaluate the authenticity of their business. This included the following:
1. Their California business license number C200714510001. I checked it out at Business Search - Business Entities - Business Programs and indeed they have ben in business (as Global Events Consulting) since May, 2007. The lawyer of record is Clay Lorinski. I checked that indeed Mr. Lorinski as a practicing lawyer in good standing in California (Bar No. 115890).
2. Marie provided me with a reference. I phoned this person and had a long conversation during which He assured me that he and his wife were very satisfied with the services of GES.
3. I consulted with my own lawyer, and he assured me that the documents that I had been provided appeared to be legitimate for a sale of this type.

Based on the results of my investigations, my wife and I decided to proceed to complete the terms of the sale. The closing date is 15 November 2010. I'll post a message then to tell everyone what happened.

Global Event Specialists

We were approached by Global Event Specialists (GES) to act as an agent to sell our timeshare property in Missouri to a business man in Mexico. They told us that Mexican business men were buying timeshare properties so that they could get a visa for the US. We were offered a very good price (twice what we paid for it). Initially they asked for a payment of $995 into an 'Escrow' account. We unfortunately paid this. Then, they asked for $5,500 to cover 'Mexican taxes'. At this point we got suspicious and hired a private investigator to check out their address in San Diego. It turns out that this is just a PO box and the phone number is not listed. Aslo GES does not have a San Diego business license. GES is clearly operating a sophisticated SCAM so BEWARE!

Don't know if you are the same person although you use the same id. But I know owning TS will not get you a US visa. Owning the TS company may.

As the one who start ed this string, let me say that there has been some delay in handling the transaction concerning the sale of our timeshare property by Global Event Specialists (GES) from the Mexican side of the transaction. I will post a notice when the sale goes through. At this point, I am satisfied that GES seems to be handling the sale in a satisfactory manner.
