Greeting and looking to dump Wyndham.

Hi,

I have owned a week for many years, but just bought points 2 years ago.

Actually, I'm very frustrated with Wyndham and want to dump them. When we bought, we were given enough points to go "VIP", but then they expired. I have since found out that they will triple our maint fees and we are basically garbage because we are below VIP status.

We found this out during a vacation to Grand Desert in Las Vegas.

I got contacted by one company that calls themselves "walk away help" who offered to get me out for $2400, saying that I will get some portion of the monies I paid back from Wyndham, but I can't verify them, feels like a scam.

Any thoughts about how to get out of Wyndham or the company offering to help us do so?

I got contacted by one company that calls themselves "walk away help" who offered to get me out for $2400, saying that I will get some portion of the monies I paid back from Wyndham, but I can't verify them, feels like a scam.

If someone told you they could sell your house for double what you paid for it and asked for $2400 in money upfront, would you do it? I would say to no to both offers for the exact same reason.

Sounds like you attend an owner update. Both are not true.

If you bought/convert to points few years ago, chances are high that you still own them some loans, any company that want to collect any up-front fee will not be able to sell it. So chances are high they will just damage your own credit and collect your up-front fee and do nothing.

It is much easy to learn to use it. You may not enjoy the VIP discount and upgrade, but you can enjoy RCI upgrade and discount.

What resort are your points associated with? It's hard to believe that your maintenance fees will triple.

We have lots of Wyndham owners here who can help you understand what you own and how to make great use out of it.

It was as close to a scam as a sale can get It was from Wyndham but it was a rip off

Being VIP (or not) means NOTHING as far as the value of your Wyundham Points. The whjole secret is simply not paying too much for them (in plain words NEVER buy at Wyndham prices - only resale.) Since you had VIP (with the other big pile of steaming brown stuff they market to unsuspecting buyers - temporary use points hat got you to VIP but expire) thayt means you PAID 90%+ too much. If you do sell your points they will sell at $.02 or less per point. Often MUCH less as you give them away. You got taken.

Feel like being taken for a second time? Then go ahead and deal with one of these groups that charge YOU to take your points and - guess what - give them away or sell them - just like you can! Why PAY $2400_+ to have them do what you can do for free? Or offer your points to anytaker & PAY THEM $1000. Watch how quick you "sell" those points. It is the same thing and you "save" $1400+ over the "walk away" folk.

Don't get taken again. Sell / give away your points and be done.

This sounds like sales floor FUD---Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt. Don't believe it for a minute.

I'm not a VIP owner either, but I can tell you I don't get treated like garbage. In fact, I love the system, love the resorts, and have really enjoyed my vacations. On the other hand, I never, ever attend an "update", nor do I allow anyone to come to my unit to give me a "survey", because all of those are just one thing---attempts at selling me more points. And, they will say anything to get you to think about buying.

It is much easy to learn to use it. You may not enjoy the VIP discount and upgrade, but you can enjoy RCI upgrade and discount.

Second this. There are plenty of happy Wyndham owners who aren't VIP. They may not be thrilled with the price they paid upfront once they discover resales, but they like the system and what they can do within it. The whole "if you aren't VIP, you don't have anything" routine is popular with the salespeople, but educated owners know better.

Check out the Wyndham sub-forum, find out how to best use your points, give it some time, and then, if you're still not happy, think about selling out. But don't sell out on the word of some salesperson. Salespeople always try to convince you you're a second-class citizen if you don't kick out the cash for whatever they're trying to sell. That's not the real world.

don't believe Grand Deserts maintenance fee increase quote, they lie to get you to upgrade.

If you buy more points to attain VIP status, your MFs will increase anyway. Don't purchase any more points than you plan to use. Sales people will tell you anything to scare you into buying more - that's how they earn their paychecks. Learn the ropes by asking questions here and reading the Wyndham forums. You'll probably learn that what you currently own will meet your needs. If at some point in the future you find you need more points, buy them resale. You'll save a considerable amount of money.
