    Timeshare and Beach Camp Tip.....

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I know most of us are spoiled with our timeshares and camping just seems much less luxurious than our digs in our condo.......but do you remember when you had fun around the campfire telling stories, making smores, and kickin it in the tent right by the beach?????......ok, ok...cold or no shower, ice chests, gas lanterns, a hard bed, no feeling of complete security behind the locked doors of your timeshare condo.....

How about the best of both worlds????

We have not done this yet but have been thinking about it. Carlsbad Seapointe Resort is just accross the street from South Carlsbad State Beach and Campground......and we have a fixed week at CSR so could very well get ahead of the curve and rent a camp site right by the beach and accross from our timeshare condo....ahhhh....a pool, kitchen, shower, and a bed when needed....and if we really want to...go accross the street and have a camping experience with a tent to store our beach stuff and a fire ring with firewood for that camping experience.....and when the kids get older they can have friends over....stay in the tent at the campground, and we get the condo to ourselves....and the ability to keep an eye on those rascals.
And they can come back to the comforts of home when they feel like it.

We may try it one of these days....has anyone else done this? Are there any other timeshares that are that close to a campgrounds like CSR?

I have posted a beach campground guide and list for California in the California timeshares section.

Sure, my favorite is Fort Wilderness at Disney. That is a great campground.

Of course, there are the campgrounds at Christmas Mountain Village, although I have never been there.

There was one in the Pocconos called Outdoor world in Scot run. My friends had gotten snagged for a 5 year membership in the trailer park.

When Topeka Tom and Barb were here the beginning of April they stayed at Sunterra's Fall Creek Resort. As I posted then, it is a hodgepodge of some nice timeshare units, park model camping and primitive camping sites.

Camping is fine. Good friends of ours just called and asked if we would be home next week so they could pull their trailer down and spend some time with us.

But, frankly, the hodgepodge of camping and timeshare really pulled down on the niceness of the timeshare. We felt the two should be more separated.

          Hey John

Maybe that will work for your relative with the dog for the family reunion.

          What a great idea though.

There is a campground down the road from Gurney's, at Hither Hills. My friends tried to reserve it for this weekend when we picked up the EV. They got laughed at, all the sites were booked a year in advance as it is the only campground in the hamptons.... But there have been a few small "fires" on the beach this weekend, Suffolk county police don't seem to be doing much in the way of enforcement.. we took the kids out there on Saturday night, showed them the phosphorescence in the sand and they got to cook a marshmallow or two at a friendly fire...

I guess they can't wait to see us cuz now they're coming this week.

I have jury duty starting next Monday. Can you picture that!

Nice idea with the dog.....I missed the window for the campground reservation...week 31 is very popular for everything on the coast.

For the most popular camgrounds at the most popular times...it is just as (or even more) competitive in the reservation process as timeshares are.....I think the only way to really assure the experience is to have a fixed week at the timeshare and stay on top of the campground reservation process and compete for space for them....I think I will try it in the upcoming year or two....I was going to do it this year but our friends who had all the camping gear could not make up their minds and we missed the window. We don't have all the camping gear as my wife thinks a 4 star hotel is camping...working on it....I loved camping when I was a kid.

Our friends are here with their travel trailer and we have been spending a lot of time with them over at a beautiful, lakefront campground. It is a fun, relaxing way to vacation.

But . . . almost everyone has a dog, or dogs, and boats and jet skis being pulled in and out on trailers, and there are a lot of kids running around and riding bikes, and some sites are just a few feet away from the next site. No one has a site where they can't see many other campers. You share a bathroom and showers with everyone else.

There is nothing wrong with that, if that's what you like. But it is not the vacation experience that most timeshare owners have purchased.

I think the two should be well separated, and let folks make the choice they want.
