I purchased a timeshare yesterday and like so many others, had second thoughts. Went back with letter in hand to cancel well within the period and was reimbursed the money on my credit card MINUS the admin / closing costs. The contract does not specify one way or the other regarding closing costs. I am thinking I will dispute the charge on the credit card. Any thoughts????

Canceling what you got talked into is a good move. Don't wait. Do it now.

Originally posted by timeos2If you cancel, also called rescinding, you should get back everything you paid. Just follow exactly the procedure in your documents and all should go well. Smart move choosing to rescind as no timeshare is worth what developers charge for them as they are readily available for pennies on the retail dollar at resale. If you still want one - and they can be a good value - just be sure to obtain it resale. Then you won't have to rescind and you'll be able to get good vacations as a great value for the money out of it.

I want that back - that's what this post is about. Any ideas?

The reasons are stated, & good ones. Same as a 20-year timeshare owner's reasons.
Yes, dispute it on your credit card. But read all the fine print. I would also say file a complaint with the AG, but . . .RCI Member Since 24-Aug-1989/150-plus Exchanges***THE TIMESHARE GRIM REAPER~~~Exchanging/Searching/SW Florida/MO/AR/IA/Consumer Advocacy/Estate Planning/Sports/Boating/Fishing/Golf/Lake-living/Retirement****Sometimes ya just gotta be a dick

Sometimes the consumer will be charged for the "value" of any free gifts upon cancellation.. In Branson, some of the sleazy vacation clubs were even using a loophole in legislation to refuse cancellation requests if the gift cards or free event tickets were used..
First and foremost, you need to ensure that your cancellation was documented and that you have proof that you rescinded during the legal period.. Don't let this fight over the questionable "admin" fee distract you from that.. You don't want to find out later that the developer tries to hold you hostage because something fell through the cracks and you can't prove that you requested the cancellation.
If you feel that the other fees are being withheld without valid reason, dispute the credit card charge and request signed paperwork where you authorized the payment. You may find that there is some clause in the contract you signed that you were not aware existed. If you still don't feel you are getting satisfaction or being treated according to the law, you can contact the regulatory agency or attorney general in the state where the property is located (or where you purchased) and file a complaint.
Chances are that as you take action, you'll get attention from individuals who have the authority to resolve this situation. Just make sure you have a game plan, and that you take care of the big things first and foremost..
Hopefully, it is all just a misunderstanding and will be resolved quickly.my travel website: Vacation-Times.org.

Rescind
Hi there,
My husband and I successfully rescinded an upgrade with Bluegreen and a regular sale with Westgate timeshares. We followed the directions exactly and received 100% money back. We were not charged any closing costs, etc. These were both in the state of TN where you have 15 days to change your mind.
Just a note- we received a phone call from both places. Bluegreen was very professional and tried to talk us into a cheaper upgrade. When I said no, they accepted my decision. On the other hand, Westgate's call was more threatening. They threatened me with legal action and claimed it would be years before I received my refund. I stuck to my decision and received refunds within a week.
Good luck
