I have a week listed for rent on Craigslist. Not getting too many interested parties, so I was excited when I had someone respond to the ad and tell me she wanted to get more information, and could I send my phone number? I jumped at this chance of renting the unit, and sent my phone number on to her. When she didn’t call, I started thinking about what could happen. Was she using the number to research and scam me or affect my credit? Nope, that was not what she was doing. She apparently sent my number on to a timeshare company as a referral.
A few days after my sending the phone number, I got an email from TIMESHARE SOLUTIONS REAL ESTATE.
Part of their email follows:
We Are Not an Internet listing company nor am I a telemarketer. We market your timeshare similar to the way you bought it. Pre financed couples come into our showroom each week and go through a presentation for which they receive gifts. The holiday season is a very busy time of year for us with all the vacationing families. The more reasonable you are on the price of the unit the faster it will sell. We are licensed and bonded with the Florida States Attorney General and I have been selling timeshare for 17 years.
With that type of service, I would not expect they would be able to help me in my rental.
They followed up with a phone call. They told me they had a referral that I was selling my timeshare. I told them no, I wasn’t, their information was wrong. He said thank you and hung up. No pressure, he was misled by the woman passing on my number.
If you get an email from Jenifer Abel (or anyone else), ignore them if it has a message like: Hi there, I'd like to discuss with you with regards to your time share, what is your telephone number? Thanks.
It will likely end up being a scam.
