  • On The Road With Ray

Ray and Darlene Harper certainly could not now do what they once did . . . 26 weeks a year in timeshares.

Can you imagine leaving home for 26 weeks, not knowing where you'll be staying in 2 weeks, and having to look each week for next week, or the week after?

there is someone on TUG who has been doing it year round. i don't believe they own a home anymore, just travel in timeshares. Plus they fly from coast to coast to do it.

        It's Joan.

You can read about her blog here.

        Ron and Joan's Journey

I think she's in St. Augustine now.

Seems like a real nice lady.
Doesn't seem to complain about RCI.
I wonder how she gets all those exchanges if there's never anything available.

Wow! Very impressive! I wonder if they have a special deal with RCI - 52 exchange fees is a huge amount to be handing over each year.

My OBX resort had an owner who died a few years ago, a little old man who spent all year timesharing, and he drove between resorts. I think he owned all his weeks, so he did not have to deal with the crapshoot of exchanging. He had a fixed week at our resort and fixed weeks on either side of it, I know, and the manager had an address at a resort he would be at during the time the m/f bill would go out.

                      Marti,

Interesting article. Thanks for posting the article.

Interesting is the fact that they seemed to hug the Eastern seaboard and make good use of the Southeast FL and Orlando units.
They even threw in a few exchanges to SW Fl.
They owned 9 weeks that got them AC's with II.
Today with points they'd probably go even further.

So they were on the road for 26 weeks of the year.
To me this shows that it still can be done today.
Sure the prices have gone up a little bit but not to the point where this wouldn't be doable.

I might have to try it one day.

I met Ray and Darlene several years ago. They live on Cape Cod too and as they had gotten older couldn't stand the winters (can't blame them). They live(d) in a condo that was not far from me. We met when he was having difficulty seperating some deeded units that were all on one deed that they had bought at auction.

Delightful people, but I have lost contact over the years. At the time I met them they were thinking that the travel was getting to be too much and were likely in their last year of timesharing for the extended period.

I'll have to look them back up and see how they are doing.

                          Joycapecod,
I'm sure this would be fun for a year or two but not sure about doing it for a lifestyle but you never know.

On one of our trips to Italy we met a couple at the Domus Volumnia who were doing just that. They had sold their house, had their stuff in storage, and were living in timeshares all over the place and loving it. When they left Italy they were headed to the Canary Islands for a few months. It seemed to be working well for them. We are actually gone about 30 weeks a year ourselves and LOVING EVERY MINUTE!!!

                              30 Weeks a year!

                              That's awesome.

Do you own 30 weeks or are you renting/exchanging?
