  • Throwing a poisoned banana to the timeshare SEO monkeys!

I've gotten frustrated with seeing my blogs and articles stolen by SEO monkeys, many of whom are self-proclaimed timeshare experts and authorities!

On Saturday, I posted a timeshare fable to one of my blog pages. It was a story about a fire at an imaginary timeshare resort, the Inn of Pawtucket. (I had just finished watching a Family Guy espisode- the one with Pawtucket Pat)..

The make believe story reported that an unhappy timeshare owner had started a fire which damaged sixteen villas. It also made the ridiculous claim that the unhappy owner had welded shut the fire hydrant outside the resort.

I figured it was silly and childish of me to play this game of online charades- but since it would take all of about 30 seconds for a legitimate author to vet the story and discover that no timeshare by that name even exists, I thought it would be a nice litmus test..

Needless to say- I've now seen it numerous times!

Just a word of caution to anyone who wants to learn about timeshares... Read every story and article (yes mine included!) with a strong dose of skepticism. Many of these websites are maintained by people who don't have any real insight into the industry, and evidently don't even have the desire to confirm the information before publishing it..

      What is a SEO monkey?

As for the rest of the story, LOL.

There have been numerous examples of stories from The Onion being featured on "legitimate" news programs as genuine news, so I'm not surprised at all to think your story would be picked up.

        Good lord!

The Timeshares Daily one has "written by TSD staff" as the byline. I hope they paid you for your time.

At the bottom, they also say "Source: Wall Street Journal".

But why am I surprised; they are in the business of lying!

Many companies have employees whose job is to improve search engine rankings. Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the visibility of a website or a web page in search engines via the "natural" or un-paid search results.

A major component of SEO work is the publishing of content. Good SEO writers will actually create their own articles. Bad ones simply steal someone else's work.. I call the bad ones monkeys because of their Monkey See Monkey Do mentality!

I wouldn't be surprised if a few resales started showing up on some sites.

              Timeshare fire sale!

I used to use that term on eBay probably five or six years ago.. I can't tell you how many emails I received asking if the damage was being repaired!

The TimeshareTalk.co.uk post of that article is essentially a link to where it appeared otherwise, at SellMyTimeshareNow.com.

TST has a news section, where they basically link to articles elsewhere on the internet. I would not call that stealing the article.

Understood.. I have no complaint over any type of reposts that credit an original source in some manner. I do it all the time in this very venue!

Apologies if I appeared to bash any specific website. It wasn't my intent.
