Cancel/terminate RCI membership

Hello,

I have got a question about the possibilities to cancel my RCI membership.

The situation is as follows:


Owner of a week in a Greek resort
RCI Full Points Membership:
I've got the option to deposit my 'homeweek' so I can use the derived points to book for resorts around the world.

I got this timesharemembership via a greek organisation called 'Aegean blue'.

Every year I need to pay a fee to
- RCI : Points maintenance
- Aegean Blue: Points maintenance


How to 'get rid of' my membership?

Are you trying to get rid of the resort or RCI?

Getting rid of RCI is as easy as not paying for the renewal when it comes due.
Now the resort is another matter.
If you own this free and clear, find out what it cost/take to transfer it to another owner. Then if the numbers make sense you can sell/give away to get rid of it and avoid the ongoing annual costs.

I owned a unit at the Village Holiday Club on Crete, also part of the Aegean Blue Group. I ended up giving it away for the cost of ownership transfer.

As to the lesser part of your question, you can cancel your rci membership at any time, and get a refund pro-rated to what you paid for it.

Not necessarily, the greedy mob at RCI will often give no refunds if you didn't pay RCI directly for the membership.

It appears as I suspected, that the OP is not involved to the exchange point, so you can disregard that. Or, maybe the new or Greek version of exchange is booked holiday.

It's all Greek to me.

And, as mentioned, if you did not pay for your RCI membership, if it came with your timeshare purchase, don't expect a refund.

As to getting rid of the timeshare itself, that is not as simple, and you should read more concerning that. It is not a matter of just not paying for it any more. Yes, there are legal consequences (not that there aren't those who have simply stopped paying).

If it was a s simple as that, the timeshare industry would have a lot of problems. The threat of legal consequences is effective.

Having said all that, I have no idea if it applies to Greece.

You are not required to have an RCI account. Now, Aegean Blue may have set up an account for you as part of their sales process, but you are not required to have the account to use your timeshare. You would only need and RCI account if you were going to exchange your timeshare use for use at another timeshare outside of the Aegean Blue Scheme.

Yes, if you do not pay there are legal issues. Aegean Blue could attach your wages, they could make getting credit difficult. I am not familiar with Greek Laws, even though my husband is Greek and we used to spend considerable time there. You also have not mentioned WHERE you live...that could make a difference as to how Aegean Blue would proceed if you were to default.

The transfer must be formal, where the person you were assigning the apartment to acccepts the responsibility of the certificate. I found a family in France to take the balance of my contact. My contract was paid in full and had a balance of about 15 years left for use. There was a transfer fee that was paid by the new owner, and they assumed the yearly maintenance fees.

What is meant by outstanding exchange is, if you (or Aegean Blue) had made a deposit of points to RCI in the account that you have and you had booked a holiday using those points for a date in the future. In order to be allowed to take that holiday your RCI account must be still active and in good standing. If you have not booked a holiday this is a point that does not need to be addressed.
