We own at Club Regina and have been to the one in PV twice and loved it both times. Also stayed at Velas Vallarta (AI) and loved that too. They are both close to the harbor that is surrounded by great restaurants. Last visit was in 2006, but I felt safer there than almost anywhere else.
Oh I love Velas Vallarta, I own 3 units there. They have been very good to me over the years. Never stayed at the Regina but am sure I will at some time. They are both located in the Marina section it is called. Lovely area! Most people feel quite safe in Puerto Vallarta.
Possibly I have been traveling about Mexico with blinders on, as well as living here with blinders, or maybe I just mind my own business and since I have no involvement with drugs nothing to worry about except being in wrong place at right time which can happen anywhere.
I already had the worst that could happen to me occur in mexico...diagnosed with Cancer, I feel safe wherever I may be as long as I am aware and there are no sneak attacks from things like Cancer. ugh.
I have only stayed in Nuevo but visited Emmy at the Bourganvillas - it is very well located and a beautiful property.
You will be happy with your choice.
Here's a vote for Bouganvillas. We've stayed at the Grand Mayan in Neuro Vallarta, and honestly, you might as well be in Vegas--the only indication you are in Mexico is a lot of wealthy Mexican families are staying there. It's a long way from the Zona Romantica, our favorite part of Puerto Vallarta, and we drove in every day--even for breakfast some days. Neuvo Vallarta is, for us, just "different" from what, for us, is the real Puerto Vallarta.

Thanks Pat...I think my mom will like it and so will I. She likes to shop and walk etc. so the location is good and I have seem iconnections ( Emmy"s pictures). Plus we are meeting up with her later in month I hope.
I love Nuevo Vallarta also, the beaches are nicer there than in PV for the most part.

Oh I do agree, but living here 24/7, Vegas is good...LOL. You would have to be a wealthy Mexican to stay at Grand Mayan. My favorite part is the marina in PV or Zona Romantica ( Old Town) like you . Def, you get more culture in Zona Romantica, or PV in general than in Nuevo...but both are quite nice...I have stayed many times at Mayan, not Grand Mayan, but have upgraded to Grand Bliss so will be either GM or GB from now on...

When we stayed 2 weeks at the Grand Mayan - Nuevo Vallarta, at least 95% of the guests were Mexican which we enjoyed as we only associate with Mexicans when in Mexico. We were there at the busiest time of the year which is the Easter Week ( La Semana Santa ) and the week after. The resort was probably at least 25% over occupancy as there were as many as 10-12 people in a 1BR unit. Most of the guests were not wealthy though there were a few of those.
I rather enjoy my time spent with mexicans....though i do nto enjoy the beach during the Semana Santa, Semana Pasque weeks...way too busy and the highway there a parking lot..LOL. Oh I am laughin 10-12 people in a one bedroom, that is nothing, ever seem how many can fit in a volkswagon, no issue with space here in Mexico...When I first moved here used to drive me crazy when standing in line at store they would get right up close to you, made me squemish...but it is cultural...they do not have the same issue with space and such as we Americans do....funny my boys who grew up here have many mexican cultured traits...
I am sure you made some hardfast friends....They say here at least in the young adult ranks that when you ahev a Mexican friend you have him/her for life...I think it is true.
Remember the measure of wealth is quite different here than it would be in the USA. Cash country...blah blah...the unwealthy or well to do..ie: middle class of which there is none in Mexico,do not stay in Grand Mayan...they stay in 100 pesos a night places...muy elegante or not..

I just hate that at clothing-optional resorts!

I am well aware of what you say. My wife is Mexican. We lived in Mexico after getting married there. I am fluent in Spanish, worked in Mexico. Our son played semi-pro baseball in Mexico and was on the Mexican All Star teams that played in the International Olympic Baseball tournaments.
There is a middle class in Mexico albeit a small one. I have driven all over there with my car packed with relatives and friends. We used to drive from Culiacan to Mazatlan almost every weekend with at least 8 people packed in our 2 Dr Pontiac Tempest.
I think there is slowly becoming a definate middle class here now...think that is a good thing. Did you live in Culiacan?? I like Mazatlan a lot and it is my boys favorite place.
My parents used to stay in the 100 pesos a night places until I spolied them with timeshares LOL.....I just love the beaches and resorts in Mexico...and of course I love the area I live in.........My Mexican friends have always been there for me...

Yes, we lived in Culiacán for 4 years after we got married. In those years there wasn't the violence that there is now. We don't like Mazatlan anymore. We have visited several times and stayed in timeshares there. We went there because of family. We have relatives in both Culiacán and Mazatlan as well as other places on Mexico. I worked in Vera Cruz which I enjoyed.
Speaking of crowding, whenever we stayed in a timeshare in Mazatlan, we had as many as 9 people staying in a 1 BR unit. That is just the way it is and is part of the culture.

We continue to like Mazatlan. Veracruz is on my list of places to go. I bet you have some interesting stories to tell.
Yes, I have now learned that the "space" issue is a cultural thing and actually it is quite nice....
Heading to PV in a few weeks like it there a lot. Oh shoot I like everywhere sunny!
