  • Any advice plz...

On Jan 5th my husband and I were vacationing in Las Vegas, and got suckered into purchasing a westgate timeshare. Long story short, we got home and did some research and decided we didnt want to do business with them. Of course its after the 10 day recission period, and they refuse to let us out. I found a company online called "Timeshare Advocacy International" that promises they can canel my contract based on the fasle things they told us and didnt tell us in the timeshare presentaiton. Buttt they charge 1500.00 to do so. and they have a 100% money back guarantee if they dont cancel our contract. Ive heard dont pay up front fees for people to sell our timeshare, but what about cancelling our contract all together?? We havnt even finished paying our downpayment with westgate. We paid 300.00 the day we bought but still owe them 1800.00. I've since sent in a certified letter telling them to stop the automatic payments, and they said they recieved the letter and did stop the payements, but I just want out of this, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Don't

These new upfront fee companies are just as bad as the originals.
They will not get you out of your deal you will learn an expensive lesson if you send them this $1500, as you be out it along with still having a Westgate.

Sorry, there is no magic bullet or super pill to cure this problem, you will need to learn how to best use this purchase.

I don't have any personal experience with the company but when you found Timeshare Advocacy International online did you also find all the scam warnings about them? Here's one from this very forum:

      Here's another from Redweek.com:

      And some from TUG:

Is this a new issue with canceling timeshares within rescission? - Timeshare Users Group Online Community Forums

The only thing that matters is what is written in your contract. If you pay anyone an upfront fee to try to get you out of it, you will most likely end up losing that money.

I feel like such an idiot for not asking the right questions or pressing the issues more while at the presentation, and now I feel like I have this black cloud looming over mine and my husbands head. Quick question, they said we didnt have to give them our social security numbers, so we opted not to, If we stop payments can they report that to our credit reports even if they dont have our socials?

It's Wastegate. Count on them being able to find anything and do anything they wanna do.

Don't beat yourself up. A lot of us here walked in your shoes at one time. I believed Wastegate lies more than 20 years ago. When folks give you crap, saying you had the Internet so it's your fault for not doing your homework, that's just pure rubbish. We all know how believable the spiel is, and how we sit there thinking, "They would not, could not, say these things if they weren't true."

It takes years to find out all the lies. The blame should be placed squarely and soley on the liars.
