  • Wyndham Points Question

So one of my friend's from college offered me the option to go to Daytona this spring break, and stay at the Wyndham Ocean Walk Resort. His dad is a part of the whatever Wyndham uses as a points system I guess. Little did I know what I'd be getting myself into.

Basically the guy offers this to his friends every year to his friends, and unfortunately someone I'm traveling with said yes to him. We're supposed to check in March 8th and checkout March 10th. I didn't get a conformation email until today, and apparently the non-refund date is 15 days prior to check in (which just recently passed). Long story short, the guy "fronted" the money and is supposedly out 500 dollars (we haven't payed yet). The group I'm with decided we can't go, and now we're being basically yelled at to hand over 500 dollars.

I ended up calling the hotel today to find out when the reservation was made (sort of to see if there was any leeway for if we could have cancelled with ample time if we had received the conformation email online), and it turns out the only reservation under the guy's name was for a timeframe longer than we planned on staying (the 5th - 10th).

If someone can please explain the gist of how this points system works I'd appreciate it. I feel like I'm being cheated out of money here.

Also, sorry for the loooooong story.

What you owe (or don't owe) is between you and your "friend". However, Wyndham does have a 15-day cancellation policy. Anything cancelled within 15 days is forfeit.

But doesn't it seem a little odd that the e-mail I got for conformation is for 3/8-3/10 when the actual reservation is 3/5-3/10? Something isn't right here.

When he made reservation, he made a longer one 3/5 - 3/10. He probably made it a while ago, and did not expect who will show up want to use it or for how long. He did rent you for 2 night 3/8 - 3/10 and agree to that amount. He can tell the resort that you will come at 3/8 and basically let the previous 2 days or 3 days (depends on when you arrive) waste. He probably can not find exact 2 days available that match your travel time, Otherwise he may try to just get the 2 day reservation. But since it is not available, so he stick to his end of bargain. If you told him 15 days before the travel day, he can still cancel it and will not loss his point. But since you told him pass the 15 day mark, if he cancel now, he will not be able to get his point back. He will have the real loss since he already paid for those points

You did not get cheat out of money, next time he will know that he need to let whoever rent from him know in advance that once in 15 days there will be no cancel, and shall ask to get money in hand, otherwise he should just simple cancel it at 15 days mark and tell you forget about any trip.

On the other hand, if you decide to rent from him within 15 days, it is different story.

It will be between you and him to settle this.
