  • Selling a timeshare.

Hello all. I'm new to this forum. Found this site through google because I'm looking to sell a timeshare that I own.

I wanted to ask some forum members regarding the sale of timeshares on this site or any other sites like this and what are the likelihood of actually completing a sale.

The reason for my wanting to sell is because I'm moving out of the country shortly and will be gone for a while; don't know how long though. I purchased a timeshare several years back for a floating week that is good on the odd numbered years. I think it was originally around $8000 and I still have about $3500 of it to pay off. I'm really just trying to hand off this timeshare and the rest of the loan amount to someone who wants to take over.

Right now I'm gathering the details before I post in the WTS subforum but I wanted to talk to some people who've been around forums like this and who can perhaps give me some guidance as I'm a total n00b when it comes to this.

    Thanks

    Ben

    Hi Ben

With a $3500 mortgage, unless this is a Westin or a Marriott prime week, you will be hard pressed to find anyone to take this off your hands. Most every other year weeks are selling for $1-$500 for good weeks, sorry.

    fwiw,

Wow. Is that just to sell a particular week or do you mean the actual ownership of the timeshare would only be worth $1-500?

The actual ownership of the timeshare.

There are plenty of scam artist reseller out there who will tell you they can get much much more and some even claim to have the buyer, but all they want is some upfront cash from you.

In order to sell at all you'd need to pay off the loan. Then the value of the interval is likely $500-$1000 at best - far less if you ant a quick sale.

Sorry for the bad news but thats the way it is.

Sorry that you have to hear the bad news about the value (or probably better termed, no-value) of your TS. It's pretty much the same with most TSs these days. Some people are selling their weeks for $1.00 or giving them away just to get rid of the endless MFs. In some cases, owners have even paid the transfer costs.
What system do you own? Perhaps you can find someone who is willing to rent your week for the time you will be out of the country.

If you can, pay off the loan so you have no more monthly payments and then rent.

If you tell us what u own (name/unit size/week # or weeks your unit floats in) we may be able to advise you regarding a rental (and the likelihood of being able to do so)
