  • Trip report: Summer Winds in Branson, Missouri

I visited the presentation of Summer Winds resort Stormy Point in Branson, Missouri today.

They are timeshare, but they call themselves fractional ownership club. Which they claim is not a timeshare.

    Their offer was this:
    * $9334 is the fee to join (down from initial $10000+closing costs and fees)
    * this gives one week of their condo in any of their resorts every 3 years for $439 maintenance fee paid that same year. Also they claim that if I don't want to use the week some year they will wave this fee this year
    * owner will be able to book any Interval/RCI resorts for $299/week through their agent, number if weeks is unlimited, no need to join II or RCI

Their Stormy Point resort in Branson that they shown us isn't too impressive, inside they look pretty ordinary, though they are individual 2BR cottages.

Overall this offer looks pretty attractive. Particularly the clause that they would waive the maintenance fee the years we don't use the resorts and $299/week for II/RCI resorts. They claim that the booking success rate is somewhere near 97%.

But is this true? How can they be able to book any II/RCI resort for just $299 when some resorts (like Big Cedar here in Branson) are almost always completely booked and go for much more than $299? Do they just lie or they really can do this?

Representative was likeable but very intense. We didn't buy which caused him to say that I didn't say "no" to them but to my spouse. I find such statement is quite rude.

Does it make sense to buy into this program?

They cannot book what isn't available in the first place.

If it sounds too good to be true, it prolly isn't true. The rudeness at the end is just icing on the weasel cake.

Speaking of Branson, a friend was telling me that he visited a new place down on Taneycomo called Trophy Run that was really nice. Anyone else been there? He thought it was fractional but sounded like time-share to me.

You can buy these units as every yeas usage for $1 to $500 on Ebay.

MF's are won't be waived for the years you have the right to use the resort. They are only "waived" for the years you do NOT have the right to use the resort. Should your usage year come up and, you decide you don't want to use your week, you'll still get to pay the MF that is due that year.

Do salesmen lie? Was his/her lips moving? Yes they're lying. You're not going to get Big Cedar for $299 unless it's in Jan. of Feb. when no one wants to go.

Don't buy this program. Search E-bay or other resellers and find out what Stormy Point Village is really worth. Like I said, I've passed up several units on E-bay that didn't even sell for $1. In this case, it makes no sense to pay the developer $10,000 to use the unit every three years when you can buy a unit resale for less than $500 and use it every year.
