  • RCI points dont cover next vacation-help!

HI ALL, I have owned my timeshare for 5 years now and just started to take vacations, so pardon me if this sounds silly. My last trip used 3/4 of my points and I want to take another trip at the end of the year. I don't have any points to borrow from next year, is there anything else I can do?

Also, do i have to pay for RCI membership next year if i dont have any points to use?

    Thanks in advance.

Near the end of the year, you might find some attractive rental prices from RCI unless you are looking at week 52 or sometimes 51.

its in october. its odd that the rentals appear to be better resorts than the actual available units to use with my points.

According to the points fee schedule, you can rent/buy points for 2 cents each.

Not point owner, but make sure if you don't pay, they will not remove your point affilation, thus when you get to use your unit, and want to convert to RCI point, they will ask you to do all the conversion through your developer again.

You can buy points from RCI or another member can transfer you their points. You're not supposed to buy them but there are some for sale on ebay.

hey philsfan, glad youre still around to help me out. if i can't seem to find a resort i like on rci's list, should i even bother? i'm trying to use ur tips but i still can't seem to find a worthy resort. also do any resorts have all inclusive options?

hi jya-ning. please explain, im very curious. i've used all my points available and can't borrow from next year. if i dont pay, will i be charged twice for the following year? i think the resort has dropped significantly in point value since ive purchased.

thanks. i haven't checked yet, but is this cheaper than 2cents per point?

I wonder if RCI has a revenue protection unit monitoring eBay like the airlines do. Buy or sell airline miles on eBay and you have a strong chance of having your ff account closed and any tickets issued on it voided.

                    Yes, RCI does.

You should't buy any points until you find something you want. Where are you thinking about going this time, back to Vegas again?

you are probably too late for the nicer Waikiki resorts but you could get something decent. There are a lot of last minute deposits in Hawaii. You could call the RCI points people and start an ongoing search. If you search all of Oahu, any matches will go on hold so you get the chance to accept or reject them. If you go that route, I would log on every day to see if you got a match in case they forget to call you to see if what they have is acceptable. If you don't confirm online yourself or when they call, the unit that matched will be released back to the pool for others to have a shot at it. You can also give them a specific list of resorts you would accept. If you give a list of resorts, any match will automatically confirm unless you specifically tell them to place all matches on hold. I don't know if your low point balance will affect your ability to start a search.

                            Hi Mister E!!

I am a new member... I have owned since 1998, began selling in 2003. I do not know where and what you own, I can tell you that 9000 RCI points will get you a 7 night/ 8day exchange to a "weeks" resort 45 days or less to check in. During that timeframe it doesn't matter whether its a 2 bedroom, 1 bedroom or a studio its 9000 points and in some areas less...Providing you are flexible -you can get multiple weeks with even relatively small point package.

As for getting more points, since you have few left, you can purchase additional points through RCI for 2 cents per point ( more like "renting" points really and I believe only up to 1/2 of your annual deeded point allotment). You may also borrow from friends and family that have active points accounts.

It may be time to upgrade to a unit with more points!! (through your home resort)

As for RCI membership, you should absolutely keep it in good standing. Unless, of course, you want to go to your home resort only in the near future. Remember, you used the points!

                            Best Wishes~

so if i call rci points and tell them to "start an on going search for hawaii" they have some type of system that will populate in my account online? where will i find the search results?

thanks for the tips. do you mean you began selling timeshares/rci in 2003? you might be the same guy that sold me mine. or should i say jk. (im sort of happy with my timeshare) im curious about how rci membership works. if i dont have any points for next year, why do i still have to pay them? im a odd year owner myself.
