We are Canadian members of RCI Points program. When we signed on with RCI we were given 7 Bonus Weeks. Last February we used our first week and found that we were charged extra $59 ($308 vs $249). When I questioned them I was told that it was due to the difference in the value of the Canadian dollar vs the US Dollar. When I disproved this theory they finally admitted that we were charged more based only on the fact that we are Canadians. Talk about discrimination!!! Has anybody else had this experience?

Yours is only one of many reasons to not be pleased with them.
The simplest explanation is that they do what they do because they can do what they do.RCI Member Since 24-Aug-1989/150-plus Exchanges***THE TIMESHARE GRIM REAPER~~~Exchanging/Searching/SW Florida/MO/AR/IA/Consumer Advocacy/Estate Planning/Sports/Boating/Fishing/Golf/Lake-living/Retirement****Sometimes ya just gotta be a dick

Originally posted by Glitter BrunelloI do believe this is due to failure of RCI to catch up with the value of the Canadian dollar. Same with books as JWC points out.

RCI has always charged Canadians more - for exchange fees, guest certificates, combining deposits, the list is lengthy. Protests occur with great frequency but nothing changes much - I guess the best response is to use alternative exchange companies. I use 6 exchange companies, and I recently let my RCI membership lapse.

Originally posted by JWCRCI are not the only ones that charge more for Canadians. Books and cards have 2 prices, one for the US and the other for Canada. In fact just about everything costs a lot more in Canada. That is just the price you pay for living in the frozen North.

Canadian Dollar
Originally posted by mandylindaIt’s excellent to say that “they do what they do because they can do what they do”, I will never come up with this sentence. Discrimination or not, the currency market is indeed unstable, fluctuating from day to day. Money is not as valuable as it was in the past. Canadian Dollar and the US Dollar are the same. Hope I didn’t put all my savings in bank, bad investment!!
