Need opinions on Aruba Surf TS

First time poster and appreciate any help in understanding the TS world. I have been presented by the local developer rep in Aruba the following proposal:
1 week 2br OS lock-off Platinum at the Surf Club in the $34K price with an added incentive of having 200K MRP deposited in my account. Also, I can pay the maintenance fees for 2011 and get an additional 110K MRP if I trade in the week.

I am trying to assess whether this is a good deal or should I be going resale. I was told that I would not be able to enroll in the DP for the added flexibility of trading in other MVC options other than the usual II option. Is this correct or am I being misdirected?

Please educate yourself about Marriott value and ownership using our Marriott forum here.
It is a bad idea to purchase a timeshare from a resort developer while you are on vacation. Any deal you are being offered will always be available after you have had an opportunity to do research. Marriott points offered as an incentive to purchase are not worth much and get watered down regularly, that shouldn't be an incentive to spend $34K for a one week ownership. Marriott has made changes to its program to try to preserve inflated prices - but I wouldn't buy at the price you are quoting.

Enjoy your vacation, do a lot of research when you get back before deciding to buy any timeshare. Timesharing is wonderful, but not simple.

How badly does it have to be Aruba? If you like the Marriott system, which is in transition, buy at a location with lower maintenance fees. Then transfer, in system, to sample other destinations.
