Maybe I am jumping to conclusions, but a minor case of paranoia has set in. I am purchasing a TS from alltimevacations-2008 in ebay. I felt okay purchasing from them since they had been ebay members since 2008 and their feedback was very reasonable. It's only been closing for about 55 days at this point.
Here is the story- There weren't any bids on a TS that I wanted. I messaged them and asked if they could close the listing early and let me buy the TS. They said that they could if I offered at least what they planned on getting and that since the listing only had a day left, I would have to act quickly. They said ebay wouldn't allow them to remove it if it was less than 12 hours from end of auction. That was all fine with me.
I got the contract and it said IA vacations. That was odd to me, but being that they just removed their listing for me, I didn't want to take up a lot of time by researching IA vacations. The closing company was the same as what was listed in the original ad, so I just went with it. They called me as soon as I faxed the contract and asked if I wanted to pay with credit card over the phone or if I wanted an invoice sent to me via paypal. I asked for paypal because I was using my paypal credit card and assumed it would be easier record keeping for me in the event something went wrong.
The next day, the closing company emailed me and said they would be keeping in close contact with me during the process. They were also supposed to be able to make a reservation for me. I gave a list of weeks that I wanted and they said the following week that they would work on it. About 3 weeks after that, I emailed asking if they were able to work on that, didn't hear back. To tell you the truth, that doesn't really matter to me. I didn't pay MFs for this year, but was still supposed to be able to use it this year. That didn't make or break the deal for me. It was just a nice bonus. If it doesn't work out, it changes nothing for me.
However, not hearing anything started making me worried. I did some google searches and found, as many of you will already know, a lot of very negative things about the companies which are all run by the same person. A thread about a charity donations thread from here also came up in the google search.
So, here is where I am right now. I am getting paranoid based on what I have read. I actually wouldn't say that I have had a negative experience at all at this point. Whether they can book my week for me or not, if it closes in the 60-90 days, it's all good with me.
However, obviously I will be singing a different tune if anything goes wrong with the closing. I think my biggest concern right now is that if the sale fails (I am not worried about the money, I have no problem with small claims or having an attorney send a letter), I won't have the TS that I have been after for so long.
I know I need to contact them again. The computer that I saved all the emails on is out of commission. It will be fixed soon, but I think I am posting more for feedback or ideas of what I can do now to find out if the sale is going through as it is supposed to.
