  • Most you have paid for TS

Ok, I am asking this question in order to determine if I am really the cheap person I have become!

I was recently looking at an exchange which was through BlueGreen / RCI and they wanted 20,000 pts, which including exchange fee is roughly $1749 for a 2 bedroom resort.

So my question is, considering your underlying MF's and the exchange fee if there was one what was the most you paid for either a 1 or 2 bedroom and was it worth it? I know this is a hard to get resort, so obviously I have taken that into consideration.

I realize that sometimes you get what you pay for, but also wondering if it is really worth that much for 1 week not even travelling internationally.

You mean as an exchange? Probably never more than $800 including RCI fees. Those included but weren't limited to 2BRs in England, Aruba, Grand Cayman and OBX during school holidays.

I did have a really high points place booked. Either easter or P-week at the Crane Barbados. I'd have to go back and see what I was willing to spend and felt it was worth but I ended up cancelling.

Doesn't necessarily have to be an exchange, could be just the underlying MF's on a points based or deeded unit for the week.

For example, my 2 BDRM at Hershey Suites for July 1 is $900 and there is no exchange fee. Maybe I'm not the cheap one after all!

I noticed Greg has his PonoKai unit with I think the MF's being around $900 so that seems to be about the most so far.

        Not at all.

There are many reasons why some of us are more than displeased with the new RCI. All my TSs traded very well and even now, the one I have left has MFs $600. Unfortunately it would currently take ~2 weeks to get what was always available for one. Luckily it is in a mini-system and I can use it with free in system exchanges and stay in 1BR, including Pono Kai, for cost of MF.

I am not a Marriott or Disney type of person. Location is my driver.

ETA: .06 for Hershey is a really good price for BG on an individual level. Retail would be about .09. You're doing fine.

          Lawren,

145K points, or about $2100 for M/F plus exchange fee.

I think the most I have spent was in the $600 range. That has included Europe on several trips, various Caribbean resorts and other beach weeks.

The most I've spent is about $550 for a week, but I get my points pretty cheaply (portfolio average is .87 per point) and I try to use the points side instead of the weeks side to keep down the exchange fees.

I'm renting a week at a timeshare this month b/c I felt that it was so high demand that I would not be able to get it through exchange. Cost is $1,100. We've also rented at another place for $900 for the week, a few years back.

One of our timeshares has maintenance fees pushing toward $700 per week, so by the time we exchange it through RCI and get insurance, it's about $900 or $950. It gets decent TPUs, though, and so we can get to some nice places using it. They would cost more to rent.

I don't think I want to know where it would cost $2100 for a week in one place. Probably Atlantis or NY, but I know even Manhattan can be had for much less than that. Perhaps when I have received my inheritance and retired!

I rarely, very rarely, want to splurge on myself and this is the brass ring. I'll get there, eventually. I have cancelled more than I've gone on over the last 4 years, Another $ bang for RCI on cancellation insurance.

I sleep on a Heavenly Bed and have my Wyndham Pillows to make up for lack of vacations.
