  • Points with RCI

Hi, I am in the process of purchasing Timeshare here in Australia.
I have 1 floating week with 52000 RCI points which will be tied up until end of June 2012.

Can anyone tell me what happens after my 12month with RCI is up.

Can I change Companies, i.e. change from RCI to DAE and use my points or do I have to change the points in RCI back to 1 week before I can sign up with DAE to bank my week.

Just want to take advantage of Dial an Exchange's bonus weeks as well.

Or am I stuck with RCI for good.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Gayle,

I'm not a RCI points owner but will tell you what I think I know.

I think the RCI points contract is a renewable contract possibly automatically running for every 3 years. You have to opt out of it. Sometimes the underlying week is more valuable out of the points system but more often not.

From your post I'm not clear if that is what you are referring to or if you are just referencing your annual points allocation.

You are able to opt out of the points programme and then are free to use any exchange company.

Your timeshare is not "deeded" either as RCI points or RCI weeks - the deed is your "title document" only.

It sounds like you have a floating week. If you let your RCI membership lapse the interval will revert to whatever is on the "Title Document".

Since your week has been enrolled into RCI Points you can use the RCI Points or you can "un-enroll" it at any time - either permanently or for one use cycle.

To take it out of points for 1 use cycle - you have to contact RCI Points between 13 months and 12 months prior to the use cycle and reserve it for your use. You can then deposit it with anyone you choose (except I believe - RCI weeks) or even rent it out.

If you want to drop it from the RCI Points program permanently - call RCI and ask for a dis-enrollment form - they will mail it to you. just remember at 12 months out the interval becomes RCI's to use, So you must drop it out prior to 12 months out.

Then you can do whatever you want with it - deposit into DAE - or even deposit it into RCI Weeks (if you are still a member of Weeks).

What happens to my RCI points if I opt out. How can I then join DAE if I don't have any points.

If you opt out for one use cycle - you wont get points for that year (cycle).

If you opt out permanently - you will no longer get RCI Points.

DAE, SFX, PI and other "independent" exchange companies don't use RCI Points and they don't care about them.

Those independent exchange companies use the underlying week from your timeshare - not the RCI Points.

Amp are you sure you can opt out for just one cycle?
I thought once you opt out they close your account.
I don't think you can cycle in and out like that.
At least that's my understanding, although I could be wrong.

Yes absolutely you can opt out of RCI Points for one cycle - however, you do still need to keep your Subscribing Membership active - if you let it lapse RCI will figure you want to opt out forever.

example: I own a week 16 at Meadow Lake Golf and Ski Resort (#1909) for which I get 36,500 points each cycle (mine happens to cycle annually). If I go to my points member homepage and click on RCI Points Vacations - then click on Home Week I can reserve my home week for my own use (opt out of points) for 2013 - I just need to opt out between March 22, 2012 and April 21, 2012 (for check in April 21, 2013 the Sunday start of week 16).

I could have used the week 16 in 2012 for myself if I had reserved it between Mar 16, 2011 - Apr 15, 2011 (for check in April 15, 2012).

I didn't reserve it so on April 16, 2011 RCI Points credited my account with the 36,500 points to use as I see fit.

If you have a 1-52 "floater" - I "think" you have to contact RCI - since it will relate to your "use year" as to when you need to reserve a week for your home week.

Think of it as a pre arranged "exchange" that automatically happens unless you opt out of it.

That's what it means to be a points member.

                chriske,

While not an RCI points owner, I think this is just an example of an owner reserving the use of their own week, as allowed.

Sounds more complicated than it is.

Well maybe since I own a triennial, one cycle would be 3 years so maybe that's why I'm getting confused.

Lucky I don't plan on opting out and using cause it's VV Parkway and you know how easy it is to get into that place in last calls.

                    Yea, like he said ...

Sorry if I made it sound complicated - I am just trying to make it clear to the new person how it works - it really is pretty straightforward.
