Holiday Inn Vacation Club - Orange Lake New Owners

We signed up yesterday, understanding that we have 10 days to cancel should I decide this is not a good situation. We ended up paying a hint over $10K for 61K annual points. We live only an hour and a half or less from Orlando and have four children, ages 3, 5, 7, and 9. We would be using the property even at times when we would not be spending the night, and that was one of our big selling points. I am interested to know what the general consensus is with this company. We usually travel at off-peak times anyway, so I believe our points will go farther, but I did notice that the book they showed us the points in was older than the book we got with our welcome package and the point requirements seem to be much higher. The man that did our tour was clear that we would not be saving money but would instead be putting our money into something that would last. He also was clear that it was best to get in on the ground level and upgrade later as we are willing/able to. We usually vacation with my parents once a year, sometimes in Orlando, other times in Gatlinburg and Myrtle Beach. Is this a good property for us to begin our timeshare ownership at or should we reconsider? If this is not a good place to start, do you have any good recommendations? It would mean a lot to us to get some good solid advice in this manner from people already familiar with the ins and outs of timeshare ownership. Thank you.

My wife and I own Holiday Inn Vacation Club points and are satisfied with them. Do some research about timeshare companies to make sure this will be the best for you. We also own points with another company that offers more options but is more costly.

Another question...

We see that some people are posting about timeshares on Ebay for $1. Should we look into doing that and saving 10K or are those auctions scams?

The ebay ads are real but look at restrictions on points transfers. Holiday Inn does not let the points transfer without buying some from them as well.

OLCC was our first tour more than 20 years ago, we've toured it five times, and they know my email address so well that when I ask them a question as Jose' Jiminez, Tijuana, MX, they reply to my real name, "What can we do for your today, Mr. JLB."

Or, cancel, then give me the difference between $10K and what I can find it for.

I would cancel and do it by the book - what is in your contract documents - or at least call & send registered letter.

Join Timeshare Forums and other timeshare sites, learn all you can, then in about 6 months, if you still want to buy direct from Orange Lake, they will sell it you at the same price.

While you're doing your homework, google Orange Lake For Rent and checkout Vacation Rentals on Orlando Craigslist. I'm 99.999% certain you can rent thre, or anywhere, for around a maintenance fee or less.

Not true. I bought 150,000 points on ebay for $1.25 and it transferred just fine. If they are charging $10K for 60,000 points, that would put 150,000 at $25,000!

I'm also a priority club Platinum Ambassador with 180,000 points, so the tie in is nice.
