  • New owner and concerned with questions

Hello everybody, me and my wife just recently went to Las Vegas for vacation in August and bought a timeshare with the Grandview. But I have some questions because I was pressured into buying this on the spot and didnt do proper research. Looking through this forum I see alot of posts about people having a bad experience with the Grandview and RCI. I wanna know if I made a mistake or are these isolated incidents, any input on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Timeshare details
$12,000 for one bedroom week 3, 2 weeks with a bonus week
    Eldorado Resorts Corp.
    Grandview Las Vegas

p.s. I have about a million questions decided to shorten this post cause it was getting to long.

The most important thing is that you bought at developer prices, which are sky high. Resale prices are much better, literally pennies on the dollar. You can get the same great timeshare experience with a resale.

Fortunately, since you just bought, you are within the period during which your can rescind and get your money back from the developer. You need to look at your paperwork and follow all procedures to rescind, and make sure you use certified mail, return receipt requested. Then you can take your time and find the resale that best meets your needs and at a great price.

You bought in August. I am afraid that it's too late to cancel.
The good thing is you did not spend too much money. It could be a lot worse. The bad thing is week 3 in Las Vegas does not have much demand. Unless you prefer to go there this particular week, I hope you bought into a floating resort so you can reserve a different week to use.

Ya it is too late to rescind I checked, I don't know what a floating resort is so I don't know if I have one but I was told that I could go to different resorts around the world and not only during that week is that not true? Also is RCI not a good company to be with? I saw some posts where people were saying it was fraudulent, are there other companies I can go with? Sorry I got so many questions I should have been on here long before I actually bought.

First check to see if you are allowed to reserve any week at your resort, or a week in a specific season, or if you are locked into Week 3. RCI is one of a number of exchange companies. If you bought a deeded week at your resort, you can exchange it through a number of companies. If you bought an RCI points contract then it's a bit different.

I was told that I could use any week, but I don't really see much in the paperwork about that being guaranteed I will have to go through it more. I believe I have an RCI points contract because part of the sale was that I would get X number of points a year, and I have to call to roll them over or whatever every year, is that a points contract?

Yes, that sounds like a points account. You need to check your documents to figure out what you've got. Do you know if they set you up with an RCI Points account?

I own RCI Points at the Grandview and am happy with it (them) - you can be also once you learn how to "work" them.

Call RCI @ 1-877-968-7476 M-F 8AM -8PM and ask the VC (Vacation Counselor) to help you set up your online account.

Just keep hitting zero till you get a live person - you should be able to by this time get your account number etc. and get started planning your first vacation with RCI Points.

Ask here if you have any further questions - there are lots of kibitzers here with lots of advice.

I do not have an account set up with RCI yet they told me at the time that I would have to set that up myself, and I checked the paperwork to confirm that I don't. Also I found in there that my weeks at the Grandview are "fixed" so does that apply only to going there or is that no matter where I go, because I was told I could use any week going to any affiliated resort provided it was done in a timely manner. @ampaholic glad to hear you are happy with it I was hoping I didnt make a mistake, I will give them a call.
                  I really appreciate the info!

                    Rci

Ok this is strange, I just received an email from RCI saying that I have been enrolled even though I have not enrolled with them yet! I did just have my first payment on the timeshare so I guess it was set to auto enroll me after first payment.

Yea, but did you call them - RCI doesn't do much by email - they are still fax and phone tech.

I can't post a direct link or TonyG might give me an infraction.

                              Hi,
Just wanted to add that I have been very happy with my RCI points account. I own at one of the other Dailymanagement resorts in Orlando and just purchased a Grandview unit as well.

You'll read alot of negative press on RCI but if you learn to work the system you can have great success at having great vacations in nice accomodations at very reasonable prices. Key is to get into the website for yourself and play with your options and see what works best for your family. Inventory changes daily so you'll want to check often and book as far out as you can. Maximum is 10 months lead time online for RCI points resorts.

As for rolling over points, I rarely do as I'm constantly borrowing ahead cause I'm a vacation hog. I suggest you stay ahead of your points as well to keep down your fees. If you can travel last minute, RCI points has some good deals with weeks as low as 6500 points plus the exchange fee of $149.

I live in Florida and there are tons of timeshares here where I can get good value with last minute deals. That's mostly how I use my RCI points account but it's also gotten me great trades into nice beachfront places with planning ahead that still came to less than $100 a night for a 2 bedroom considering all fees. Considering that a 2 bedroom can run upwards of $250 a night in many of these beachfront resorts, $100 a night is a steal.
