  • Traveling to resort for the holidays?

Since it is just the DW and I, we sometimes spend the holidays at a resort. For us, we go the Christmas Mountain Village (CMV) in the Wisconsin Dells area, mostly because it is in our Bluegreen system and about a 4 hour drive making it convenient. We will be there for this Thanksgiving to get away for 4 days.

This year, for us, it looks like great traveling weather. We did drive to CMV for Christmas a couple years ago and had the worst drive I have ever had. We had snow, freezing rain and sleet which made the 70 MPH freeway drop down to 10-25 MPH. It was not a fun drive at all. But we made it, and other than nearly falling on our a$$es at the resort on the glazed ice that had been falling on the steps and driveway and everything else, we had a really nice time away from all the normal hectic parts of the holidays.

Anyone traveling to a resort for one or both of the upcoming holidays?

Not me.....I'm always home for the holidays......Cooking, cleaning & serving, yada, yada. Lol. I do love hearing the holiday travels of others, and one day hope to be able to travel for at least one of them.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Our family usually goes somewhere for Thanksgiving because the grandkids get this week off from school. This year we are staying home.

I am in Canada, T.G. is mid October and it is the traditional:
CLOSING of the cottage, means work, work and more work.....
Christmas is a different storie: GET A WAY FROM IT ALL....
Every single year I go a way purposely.
Uptill now I took the kids out of school a day or two earlier to prevent hours of line up on the US - Canada border....
However, now they are older and insist staying trough....till last day.
So, We leave 3 am from Toronto, drive to Buffalo and fly to Myrtle beach for 2,5 weeks. (this saves 800$ on 3 airfairs!)
they will miss the first2 days from school in Jan 2012 though.

By the way, I have all my Christmas presents (friends, family, clients, even the dog has a little stuff) wrapped and waiting in the basement for being distributed to the wrightful owner!!!!

I have always wanted to travel at Christmas time, but am aware of course that some destinations can be VERY hectic (Disney World in Orlando was horrible when we went one year). This was one of the only times I ever did and it was as a child.

Unfortunately, now that I am an adult and a part of the working force, I am not high enough yet on the totem pole to get this time off. Providing essential public services means that only so many people can request and get the times they want. I recently heard that some agents with over 20 years did not get the times they requested so I am always very liberal with the vacation times I request.

My parents whom I have always gone to see over the holidays have already said that they would understand if Karen and I wanted to travel during this period and have our own Christmas celebration. So it is definitely something we are interested in doing in the future.

This Thanksgiving, our son, wife and 3 kids will be visiting us from Monterey CA. This is the first Thanksgiving we have had with the grandkids so we are really looking forward to it. They moved to Monterey from Texas this year. We usually have our daughter and SIL but this year they are in Indiana for Thanksgiving to visit his family.

This Christmas, we will have both our son's family and daughter here with us.

We haven't gone away for the holidays for many years as we don't like crowds. We used to go to Las Vegas and Laughlin Nevada for Thanksgiving and New Years several times when there was just the 2 of us for the holidays.

We got an exchange in Palm Springs for Christmas week. We are coming and going that week, so we will be at home for Christmas day.

My youngest is a HS Freshman this year. I have 4 more years of traveling at peak times, then I get to switch back to off peak. My husband and I both prefer the lower crowds anywhere that we go.

I am here right now at our timeshare on Anna Maria island. It's the only one we don't exchange as DH in particualr loves it here. We've come for Thanksgiving week 4 out of the last 5 years (last year we came in the summer for a change of pace). DD is missing two days of school.

DD still insists on being home for Santa on Xmas day. But this year we will leave Xmas evening to go to Ron Jon's for the week in between Xmas and NY.
