My wife and I recently received deeded ownership is a timeshare. We also were able to transfer the points earned by the previous owner from an exchange company.

When using my deeded week, am I correct in believing that the exchange group has nothing to do with that and I shouldn't have to contact them at all or use points. I think I understand that the exchange company should only be used when I want use my points to go elsewhere OR use my "home" resort for a different week than my deeded one. Am I wrong?

Not necessarily. In RCI Points, for example, you have to notify them during the appropriate timeframe if you want to use your own week.

      Hello, and to TS4Ms.

In order to better answer your question, please tell us which resort you own, and which point system and exchange company you are referring to - there are quite a few, and they don't all operate the same way.

And you say "deeded week," but it is a specific week, or do you have points tied to a home resort?

        specifics

We belong to Diamond Resorts at Cyprus Point Grand Villas.

Everything with DRI just hasn't been easy and if feels like they don't inform the new user very well but they're definitely willing to bill you for you maintenance fee. They tell us all the documentation we need is on their web site but I haven't seen any; when I ask for paper docs on procedures and stuff, they refer me to the site.

        Just feels shady.

Probably more typical than shady. I own ten weeks, all purchased resale, and have never had any documents from any of them on policies and procedures. They market to the new owner and have nothing really to gain from resales.

Diamond just took over management of one of my resorts. The online reservation system no longer worked, but the person I talked to on the phone was very helpful, even though I pointed out that all their emails said the online reservation system would still work but it doesn't.
