  • New approach for renting excess inventory

Just saw this one and it made me chuckle...

Have excess inventory? Just say Groupon! (not exactly Groupon, but close).

Now everyone can understand why they can no longer rent their units out to cover their maintenance fees for the years they are unable to vacation. 5 years ago my dues were 1/2 of what it would cost for a cheap rental and now it's just the opposite, my dues are twice the amount that I could actually rent the unit for.
I think the timeshare industry is changing for the worst!

Jason it sounds like you should figure out what's going on with your Home Resort. All majority "customer owned" resorts in Wyndham have POA's that decide the budget for maintenance. For example, my home resort (KingsGate in Williamsburg) has a stable maintenance because the POA implemented a $5/day charge to ANY guest (Owners included) that pays for the extra amenities (Arcade, indoor pool, mini golf, etc). Last year they raked in about 300k in revenue from the $5 alone.

I have been posting about the difficulty in renting out quality Branson resorts for years. I'm lucky to get $300 a week for a 2-bedroom, Gold Crown quality unit in a gated golf community.

8 million visitors a year come to the area, and spend more staying at low-end motels. Craigslist is full of discounted ads.

There is a very strong stigma against timeshares . . . something the industry has created.

Did you see the regular price for May? $545 per night for 1BR. You should feel like you're getting a bargain for maint fees at $1000 per year.
