  • Timeshare Plan Of Action

Since we have a few weeks banked with Westgate 3BR Lock off (already paid the transfer fee to NOT use our fixed week). It seems as if the best plan of action would be as follows:

1 - Attempt to reserve Thanksgiving or Christmas week (now costs extra starting this year)

2- If Thanksgiving or Christmas are not open - reserve for a prime week as late in the year as possible and still be prime.

3 - Attempt to either exchange or rent out that week. What are the pro's and con's of each? Since it is only 9 / 10 Months away - should we not even consider attempting to exchange? Or do I need to know WHERE I want to exchange before I can answer this question.

4 - If not able to exchange or rent, just vacay at the resort that week.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks in advance.

1st, what are you trying to accomplish?

I have always found that getting to my ultimate goal required me to 1st decide what it is.
You have laid out what you could do, but without your goal in mind, nobody can give you directions as to how to get there.

Good Point. I guess the goal would be to try and use the timeshare to vacay in places other than where we own.

        OK

So you need to make some deposits to a trading company. You can use II, RCI, HTSE, DAE, PTI, TPI etc.
Where do you want to go for your next couple of trips? To go to Hawaii I would use Trading Places. They don't have an annual fee, they have pretty good availability on most of the Islands. Platinum also has no annual fee, they do however have season/size, upgrade charges.
RCI is the largest and has the most resorts, they also get $89 a year to join and $199 to trade, they are now the highest cost, so their value has decreased as a trading partner.
So if you plan out your wish list for the next couple of years, we can steer you in the right direction.

          Yay yay yay!!

          Thanks aliikai2!

Here is the wish list - in no particular order:

          Hawaii (Kauai)
Mexico (not particular on where - but would like an AI if it makes financial sense)
          Wyndham Bonnet Creek (Orlando)
          DVC (Orlando)
          Destin, Florida
          Key West, Florida
          Caribbean (not particular)

If my mom retires this year, then we will be open in respect to dates (she is a teacher).

One more thing to add - We are already members if II. Not sure if that matters.
