  • Resell Timeshare Advice?

    Hi everyone,

I'm a member with Club Intrawest.

It doesn't seem like a viable option financially anymore, so I'm here on the forums trying to find advice on how to resell my timeshares.
I'm not even sure how to go about it. I've been reading the forums and seen a lot of good advice on timeshare resale company scams, but I am not even familiar with timeshare resales in general.

    Please advise.
    Thank you.

Well, allow me to help you, but I'm not gonna have the best news for you.

I'm a person who formerly worked for one of the "scam" companies that are out there. Pretty much, they are ALL scams.

You can go with Ebay, Craigslist, and ebay for about $50 combined. Your chances of selling it are slim, still, but at least you won't pay hundreds or thousands of dollars to find that out. If you do get a bidder, it will be for pennies on the dollar of what you paid for it, which is OK with a lot of people. They just want to get out of it and the maintenance fees...but if you still owe a substantial amount on it, my advice to you is probably to just make it a point to keep enjoying it, or see to it that someone you care about does.

I wish I had better news for you...but no matter what they say to you, do NOT LISTEN TO ANYONE WHO CALLS YOU AND OFFERS TO PUT YOUR TIMESHARE ON THE MARKET FOR AN UP FRONT FEE.

Research what other people are selling their same exact thing for. Redweek.com and ebay are good places to check. I know nothing about your particular club.

After you figure out if you can sell it, decide if you want to advertise it yourself (we have classifieds on this site), or if you'd rather see if a reselling agent will list it. Normally, they will want 15% commission or a minimum of $1K. after the sale. You don't need to pay an agent to make the listing. When they ask for money just to list it, they only want your money and won't try to sell it at all.

After running across a Club Intrawest listing on Ebay, I really think you should consider a broker who will take a commission at the end of the sale.

This listing's starting bid is $18,000. That particular Ebay seller normally starts his auctions at $1. I don't think he would start the auction that high if he didn't think he could get it.

Check Redweek.com and myresortnetwork.com. A lot of the other resale sites just make money on the listing and they will over price it and let it sit there forever. Redweek and Myresortnetwork have listings both my owners and brokers. My thought is that you will probably find someone who specializes in this particular club. Good luck.

          Hi BlueDreamer,

If you are planning to sell your timeshare I suggest you to give a try by using sites like ebay.com. Most of the rental/resale companies are just listing companies. They just list your timeshare in their website and wait until someone call and ask for your timeshare. Of course that the possibilities of getting your timeshare sold/rented by this mean are very low.

In addition the real market value of timeshares are extremely low. Why do you think the resorts offer to their prospects, free breakfast, money, spa, tours and so on just to attend to a 90 minutes presentation? Simply because the is no other way to sell it!

Feel free to contact me if you have questions.

          Regards,
          Ricardo Lasker.
