I mentioned if I was wrong, I'd be back to admit it.
I was. I missed it by five years.

I happen to believe that timesharing is not better than hotels. It is just different. We typically do 2 timeshare weeks and stay in hotels 50+ nights a year.
Having said that, it all depends on one's preferences. We do not cook any meals when vacationing so having a kitchen is not important. We do like all the amenities that upscale hotel resorts offer, like room service, housekeeping, etc. This type of service is typically not found at the vast majority of timeshare resorts. We aren't interested in a condo experience. We have enjoyed that upscale resort experience at the Grand Mayans and Royals in Mexico having spent 12 weeks there but we have no interest in Mexico anymore. Our home resort also offers the hotel experience which we enjoy. We often use bonus time there.
A lot depends on the location we are going to. Some locations are much better for timesharing and some aren't. We always pick the location we want to visit and then decide on what would be the best choice of accommodations for us. I do a lot of research if I am not familiar with the area or accommodations there.
When picking timeshares, we almost always specify the particular resort we want. We have done all our exchanges for the past 15 years with SFX and have always been able to get what we wanted. Prior to that we used RCI and II but did not get the same type of exchanges. I don't like RCI and am not terribly fond of II but I am not going to bash them. I chose instead to just quit them and switch to something that works for us.
We have stayed in some Hotel suites that offered everything a TS does plus more.
What I am saying is that not all is bad with timesharing. It all depends what one is looking for to suit their preferences and needs. To make timesharing work, you have to learn how to make the most of it. Bashing RCI, etc, doesn't fix anything. Just do something about it if it is not working for you.John

Being new to TSing, I am still on my honeymoon. I love feeling like I have a beach house or a vacation condo, without having all the responsibility that goes along with it.
I don't like maids knocking on my door and I don't like not having a kitchen. We tend to be busy people and are often running around until late. When we stay in a hotel, we want food at 11pm and end up ordering expensive room service just because we are hungry and don't have a fridge or anywhere to stash bring along food.
That all being said, if I bought where I didn't want to stay with the sole intention of exchanging to where I would want to stay, I'd be a very unhappy camper. Yes, I do exchange and a lot because of SFX and Platinum giving several weeks in return for my one week, but I'd be happy to just be stuck with what I own.

First, there was dirt.
Then sliced bread.
Then the Big 3 . . . Wastegate, Vistana, Orange Lake.
The only decision was which one.

I was just out paddling my dog around the canals and creek and got thinking about toning it down.
Is that really the best thing?
Maybe being more prolific is the best thing.
The easier it is for folks to find the truth in the few days they are legally given to find it, or be stuck forever (After contacting Westgate Resorts, Channel 7 TV received an email from David Siegal, founder and CEO of Westgate timeshares. The email stated, “…Since we have to service our owners forever . . . ), the sooner the industry would be forced to make the changes necessary to survive.RCI Member Since 24-Aug-1989/150-plus Exchanges***THE TIMESHARE GRIM REAPER~~~Exchanging/Searching/SW Florida/MO/AR/IA/Consumer Advocacy/Estate Planning/Sports/Boating/Fishing/Golf/Lake-living/Retirement****Sometimes ya just gotta be a dick
