  • Best and Worst TimeShare Stories

Thought would start a new thread for best and worst experiences in TimeShares. Hopefully someone can learn from our successes and failures.... Or at least be entertained....

I currently own three intervals in three different resorts. The are as follows:

    3BR Bienial Odd - Mystic Dunes Since 2006 Total Cost $ 987
2BR Bienial Even - The Resort on Cocoa Beach Since 2005 Total Cost $1129
150,000 Points - Holiday Inn Club Vacations Since 2012 Total Cost $ 101

I tend you use my Cocoa Beach location each interval, and exchange the Mystic Dunes 50% of the time. What has worked great is breaking up the 3BR lockoff. Most recently, I exchanged a 1BR of the Lock off for a 2BR at the Sheraton Vistana.

Haven't had a chance to use the HICV yet, but I'm looking forward to it.

Worst case scenario: Anything purchased directly from the Resort: woot: My fater paid $22,000 for a week in St. Thomas. OUCH!

I'm trying to find the right word, and I probably won't, but that is quite a generic/typical/standard portfolio, what a typical Orlando visitor/tour-taker might wind up with.

Well, I mean, with timeshares all over the world, and to have three within an hour, m/l, of each other.

So, what's the best and worst, or the story?

I don't see any best and worst in the OP's post. All I see is some central Florida resorts.

What best and worst experiences are you referring to?

Did someone already say that? Let me look.

Oh, the $22K is the worst, I get it.

        There are worse worsts.

          That was kinda the Point!

I thought it might be fun and interesting to share wins and losses. What are the best and worst deals you have ever heard?

There are so few winners any more, it seems like it would be misleading to those coming here for advice for someone to post bests. Even free comes with the obligation baggage as not free.

But, if I had to pick bests, having started in Orlando more than 20 years ago and having searched Resorts on the Beach every day for many years, my best would not be in Orlando or NE FL.

            It's subjective, too.

Wow! OK. Lets bring out those nightmare stories. Maybe a few can learn from others misfortune.

I bet right now someone is signing a contract at OLCC, Wastegate, Vistana, and a dozen other Orlando timeshares, so I doubt it.

It looks like you have been around in the timeshare industry. Are their any companies in you opion that have an honest presentation?

I enjoyed the Disney presentation - I would not buy from them, as resale is still much cheaper, but the presentation was pretty laid back and basically pretty straightforward.

                      Like I said, it's subjective.

If someone is selling something for $20,000, or whatever, that can't get a buck on eBay, how can it be an honest presentation?

                        is non-disclosure dishonest?

I think so. So, basically, there are not honest TS presentations.

Even DVC who touts themselves as being so unique pushes buying direct so that you can use points for cruises and Adventures by Disney. They, however, don't mention that the cash cost for those things is far less than the the cost in DVC points.

What is not said, or what is implied by silence, can be worse than outright lies.

                              How about a best story...

Last December DAE offered Bonus Certificates (for last call weeks 8 weeks out or less) for $149.00. I only bought one - for a gift - but I have been tracking the program, and wish I had bought a dozen or so for myself. There is a 3BR Masanutten out there now that I would grab right now if I had a cert. I sure hope they offer the program again this coming December.
