  • Getting the most from my timeshare

I am new to this forum so Hello ALL.
I am a timeshare owner, Red WEEK at Mass resorts in VA. I have owned for 5 or 6 years now. Every other year we go to our home and the opposite we go somewhere else.
I am looking for as much info as possible on how to get the most for my ownership. I purchased to eventually go to Hawaii with my family.
Anything anyone can tell me would be great, Are there any books out there to read on timeshare ownership?

Thanks All, look forward to hearing from you!@!@

What exchange company have you been using? Do you have an idea where you want to stay in Hawaii? Which island, which town? Or are you flexible on that choice? What size unit will you need? If you normally use RCI to exchange is it a points deposit or a weeks deposit?

We can help you learn this thing we call timesharing. 1st we will need to know what you really own, week, size, etc. Then I think you are using RCI, which is ok unless you want to go to Hawaii. Once you pick which island and when you want to travel, we can help you pick the best exchange company.

You will learn a lot by reading here. Even going through the older threads - there is a lot of helpful information here.

In my experience, books discussing Timeshare tend to be, not just out of date (RCI keeps changing things!), but too general to be particularly useful. The internet, and in particular sites like TS4Ms, are your best resource. Any good TS discussion board can be a great help to you in terms of trading; when it comes to the tricks regarding your home resort, some can be a bit better than others. TS4Ms is the best general TS forum for Bluegreen owners, for instance.

You could also go looking for a group aimed at your particular resort -- I like the set up here at TS4Ms better, but I'm also active in the Bluegreen Yahoo group, because that's where the best information regarding the particular resorts is available.

There are several exchange companies that can help you get to Hawaii, including Hawaii Timeshare Exchange (HTSE - www.htse.net ), Trading Places International (TPI - www.tradingplaces.com ), and Trading Places Maui. Platinum Interchange and Dial an Exchange also get inventory there.

SFX is very good for Hawaii. I have exchanged 3 times into Hawaii with SFX.

Agreed. They are a great exchange company. I have used them myself. They are very selective on what resorts they take as deposits, so you are more sure of getting a good one. I was not sure if they would accept the OP's resort as a deposit, so I did not list them, but I probably should have. There is an Ask SFX board on this site. The OP can go there and ask if her resort and week would be accepted as a deposit by SFX, and if so that would actually be my first choice.
